Story Hour - Keep on the Shadowfell with first time D&D players

The Forest Lair During the halfling bard's performance, a halfling girl kept making eyes at Tlaloc, whose stature is barely taller than a male halfling. But her father, an old, stodgy halfling with a scowl on his face, interevened and ordered her away when he realized his daughter was flirting...

Story Hour - Keep on the Shadowfell with first time D&D players

Here is the writing on the scroll that was found on the mummified wizard's hands inside his sarcophagus at the burial site: If Ye Who Read This be Among Those Who Honor Life, Take Orthax, My Most Beloved Wand, and Swear Ye to Use It Always to Oppose The Blood Lord and His Dreadful Servants...

What I'm missing from the DM's Guide or Monster Manual

The one thing I feel that I'm really missing which I wish had been in the 4E Monster Manual or DM's Guide is a big assortment of pre-made player character race/class "monsters" from level 1 on up. I especially feel that I need more human opponents, as the campaigns I run tend to be...

Is 4E the New Coke of RPGs?

From where I'm standing it seems to be producing many more new players that previous editions.

Story Hour - Keep on the Shadowfell with first time D&D players

Halfling Performers Before they left town, the heroes ran into a troupe of traveling hafling performers in the market square. The halflings included various acrobats and musicians performing for tips and handouts, and one particularly talented bard who performed the Ode to Brave Sir Keegan for...

Story Hour - Keep on the Shadowfell with first time D&D players

You're right, Tony. Combat did go better with the paladin in the group. Although the big showdown with Irontooth was still very tough.

Story Hour - Keep on the Shadowfell with first time D&D players

Inscription on the Dragon Wizard's Sarcophagus I gave the dragonborn player a handout during the game which contained the runes found on the sarcophagus, and an explanation of the runes. In the Common Tongue, the inscription on the sarcophagus stated: "Here lies Radifex Argilian, Initiate of...

Story Hour - Keep on the Shadowfell with first time D&D players

Tomb of the Dragon Wizard At last Lozol met his newly discovered sister, Lilith. The siblings could hardly be more different from each other in some respects. Lilith whispered a quick warning to her brother to be careful of the eladrin wizard and his strange prophesy. But in all it was a...

Story Hour - Keep on the Shadowfell with first time D&D players

Thanks for the feedback, Caldarion. I've already written up the journal entries from the second session. We had the player of the half-elf paladin play this time, so we had a full complement of six players. We had a great time in our second session. The last battle was massive (against...

    4E Gods - Where's the crunch?

I think 4E has the right idea, that you can't try to cram different classes into one in order to differentiate clerics of different deities. I do think 4E should have had the Channel Divinity feats as the standard for clerics, with Turn Undead acquired as a feat instead. I think the way to...

H1's Splugg: A total success! (spoilers)

We haven't gotten to Splug yet, but I'm hoping he will be a success with my players. I'm stealing some of your ideas for use in roleplaying him. I like the idea of having him be a cowardly cheerleeder. That might endear him enough to the characters to keep him alive longer.

    Dropping H2 connections into H1

That makes more sense. Some of the henchmen sold some prisoners to the Bloodreavers. Looking back at the side treck, it does specify the slavers bought these prisoners from the kobolds, not from Kalarel himself.

    Dropping H2 connections into H1

The one thing that didn't make sense to me in the expanded encounters PDF from Dungeon Magazine for Keep on the Shadowfell is that I don't see why Kalarel would be selling slaves to the slavers, since Kalarel many humans to sacrifice to create all that blood for his ritual to open the Rift, and...

    Dungeon Tiles - Photos

The tiles come in enough shapes and sizes you can build a dungeon with most any size rooms and connecting corridors if you buy multiples of each set of tiles. For the most special encounter areas such as giant caverns with lava rivers, etc. you would need to use something else, such as drawing...

    Dungeon Tiles - Photos

I use Dwarven Forge whenever I have time to set up stuff and don't have to travel. But I still find the Dungeon Tiles very useful when I travel to run a game away from home, or when I need to set up an encounter area quickly. I also like using the Ruins of the Wild set of Dungeon Tiles to...

Is there any way to get Dungeon without Insider?

Right now I have an interest in the online magazines if I can get them at a reasonable price. I have zero interest in the game table so long as they want to sell additional "virtual minis" for additional cost. So unless I can get the magazines for a reasonable price, I'll skip DDI altogether.

    Solo monster question

Remember also that solo monsters have two action points which they can use in the encounter, allowing them (through the use of each action point) to get two standard actions in a round for the two rounds in which they use action points. And since they have double attacks on a standard action or...

What rules most need more official errata/clarification?

For me, definitely the rules for use of Stealth in combat is number on on the list. I think WOTC needs to carefully create and then publish a DDI article as soon as possible that presents several examples that clarify beyond doubt how the designers intend the rules to work in play.
