I got the creeps in Ravenholm worse than Doom 3. Well maybe it was more one particular scene... when I set the zombies on fire with the natural gas traps or whatever they are and the zombies came out flaming or screeming. That really gave me the chills as it seemed so realistic.

Simply to encourage my group to stay together and play as much as possible by being agressive about scheduling everyone's time (even then we can generally only meet once every two to three weeks). Pick up the DMing reins if necessary.

Pyior moves to a position behind Danwyn in which he is not threatened by the creature and casts Tranfer Wounds: Lesser on Danwyn. As a secondary move (if he has time) he will study the creatures and try to identify them.

Good point Fusangite on the low INT scores of wolves. I was going to say the same thing. But I don't think this means you have to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Perhaps there needs to be a WIS component to this as well.

Thanks for all the input. The variety is amazing. Another that I have used to roll for monster/NPC hit points (but not yet for players) is roll 3 dice and take the middle result. That still gives some decent randomness with less extremes.

Seconded re: Tales of the Dying Earth. The Vancian magic system specifically comes from the Dying Earth series. I think the Lyonesse series is more pure fantasy, but I would still say that Dying Earth is "mostly" fantasy.
