Minis or Theatre of the Mind? (Survey)

Generally minis, although I don't spend $ on them. I bought the Pathfinder Beginner Box a while back and use the same pawns and flip mat over and over and over. Some players use cardboard pawn, some buy their own. With a big group I feel I pretty much have to otherwise big 'ole soup sandwich!

    Need an alternative to D&D.

I'm pretty new to SW but have to say I think it's great and am wondering where it's been all my life! I've played / DM'd D&D in its various versions off and on for 25 years, enjoyed it all and still do. As far as GM duties go though I don't think I will ever run a D&D game again. SW all the...

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd - How Long Start to Finish?

9 months, played almost weekly either 2 or 3.5 hour sessions. Feel like I didn't use a lot in the book - Argynvostholt, Bonegrinder, lots of castle left unexplored, blew through few rooms of Amber Temple. Chalk it up to DM fatigue, should have taken a break for a bit.

D&D 5E (2014) DM HELP! My players killed Strahd too easily!

I totally agree with previous post, although sooner or later the adventure has to end. Put another way, the finale with Strahd (IMO) shouldn't take multiple sessions to finish and turn into an exhausting grind. In my case (and in retrospect) a more narrative approach would perhaps have been...

D&D 5E (2014) DM HELP! My players killed Strahd too easily!

I was worried about this the whole time I was running CoS. As it turned out my concerns were accurate, although the fight was . . . ok. It had to more with story elements than mechanics, although I did decide to use Sly Flourish's Ancient One rather than Strahd as presented in the book. I'm...

Volo's First Review Says "Worth every gold piece"

I totally agree! I was thinking of doing a review on Curse of Strahd . . . I've been DMing it for the last 6 months! That being said, I guess the excitement is part of our quirky hobby and someone had to be first! I wouldn't put too much stock in such an early review. The people who were...

Help me find my next game!! (taking a break from 5E)

Picked up Covert Ops after a little searching, looks right up my alley for games here and there. Gave it a quick read already and looks like it will be fun. Savage Worlds was a very close second, I may pick it up in the future! ok changed my mind, picked up Savage Worlds - wow ! Great stuff.

Help me find my next game!! (taking a break from 5E)

I'd also like to know a little about the generic rulesets. Played GURPS ages ago, definitely not what I am looking for. Not at all familiar with Savage Worlds, FUDGE, Fate, etc . . . I think I looked at free Savage World download and it seemed pretty crunchy.

Help me find my next game!! (taking a break from 5E)

Just finished up running Curse of Strahd and had a blast. Taking a break from the DM chair for a season, some other guys in group have stepped up to run some 5E adventures. I'm really looking forward to just running my PC and not everything! That being said, I'd still like to GM every now and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Storm King's Thunder a flop . . ? Still early yet but doesn't look that good.

I don't exactly recall, but didn't Chris Perkins mention on recent podcast (WOTC DragonTalk) he pretty much wrote SKT over a long weekend or something when he was sick?

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Storm King's Thunder a flop . . ? Still early yet but doesn't look that good.

http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthread.php?488471-Storm-King-s-Thunder 58.5%? Yikes! My group is 1 session away from finishing Curse of Strahd, which has been a lot of fun. I passed on STK for next campaign, and have to say I'm glad I kept my $. Most early reviews have focused on it as a...

D&D 5E (2014) Dispel Magic vs buffs - does the caster know what target has active?

Continue with Strahd as example. I'm suggesting that he should know his victim is being magically protected somehow. The graveyards of Barovia & his castle are filled with the bones of previous adventurers who tried to mess with him. Strahd's brilliant and it could be fairly said he's seen it...

D&D 5E (2014) Dispel Magic vs buffs - does the caster know what target has active?

That's the reason I'm posting - to get some ideas!;)

D&D 5E (2014) Dispel Magic vs buffs - does the caster know what target has active?

No sensible creature is going to stand there for a minute and let the caster use identify on them. No caster is going to use this in combat. Let's look at protection from evil - great spell! What flavor (if any) would a DM use to illustrate it? Strahd von Zarovich would not need identify to...

D&D 5E (2014) Dispel Magic vs buffs - does the caster know what target has active?

First off, description says "any spell of 3rd level or lower ends. For each spell of 4th level or higher on the target . . ." etc. Does spell end all active spells on target or just 1? It can be read both ways. Dispelling all seems pretty powerful IMO, although it is 3rd level spell. That...

D&D 5E (2014) Lost link to blog RE: playing low CR monsters well (goblins, orcs, etc) due to enworld I.T. issue

I didn't book mark it and now can't find it! Someone set up a neat blog describing exactly how to use hide, move, etc for these critters. They were planning to do more. Any guidance appreciated, assume the blogger is here somewhere, thanks!

I don't know, never played 4E. He did? Maybe he meant SRD ;)

Is the Pathfinder Core Rulebook Too Big For You? Check Out These Pocket Editions!

I saw these in my FLGS a while back, they look great! I'd buy a 5E PHB, MM, DMG if they ever printed them, not that they are likely to...

    D&D 5E (2014) I'd really, really like to hear about some fights with Strahd . . !

Looking forward to the conclusion of the adventure for sure. Strahd is a unique, legendary bad guy and finale should be memorable. I'm toying around with the idea of Ireena being a real bride (not a spawn) :] Strahd took her earlier in the adventure.
