    Character Builder

Bug/Oversight, I'm guessing. Have you filed a bug report? (I still need to do exactly that for the differences between the Anarch of Shyr and the Coronal Guard level 11 bonuses in the book and the character builder) That's a known issue, I'm pretty sure, and one that bothers me a lot as well.

    Aegis of Assault and OA

PHB, page 268, Triggered Actions. Yes, you are correct. You can both make an OA and use Aegis of Assault, since one is an opportunity action, and the other an immediate action.

    Cleric regeneration

Errr... what? Are we reading the same power? Beacon of Hope heals all allies in the Area of Effect an immediate 5 HP (yes, Healer's Lore applies), and it gives all your healing powers (such as Healing Word) a +5 bonus until the end of the encounter. There is no mention anywhere of regeneration...

    Flanking with... yourself?

Actually, that page quoted by BKI did provide the answer. Quoting directly from the PHB: Does dancing around an enemy have you and an ally fill in this requirement? Not unless you're your own ally (not according to the rules), and you somehow manage to be in two places at once. So no, you...

    Toughness vs Durable

It's a choice, really. 15 immtediate HP over 2 healing surges. Also note that those extra HP make every individual surge bigger, gaining a little bit more HP in the process. For instance, a wizard who starts out with 10 Con with Toughness has 117 HP at level 21, and 7 surges (+2 Con from...

Pace of level advancement in 4th edition D&D

This. I strongly dislike differences in XP between my players, don't like having to count the XP, and I feel leveling people up at story-appropriate moments makes for a more 'cinematic' feel, anyway. I usually go with one level per 3-4 sessions, sometimes slower, depending on what happens.

Dwarven Weapon Training and Superior Weapons

I don't know what version you're using, but the dwarven fighter I just made to check this is perfectly capable of wielding Craghammers and Execution Axes.

    D&D 4E A few questions about modifying 4e rules.

I personally feel bad about random HP, mostly because the more random the HP, the more you screw over those with big hit dice. A 1 on a d4 hit die means you missed out on 3 HP, and since you're the low hit die type, you probably don't need much HP. A 1 on a d10 means you missed out on 9 HP you...

    Ranger and Heavy Blade Opportunity

Read the thread, mate. The first post clearly says "the ranger took Heavy Blade Opportunity."

Two-blades ranger with two bastards - kosher?

I don't see how 'a well-crafted historical setting' and 'k3wl p0w3rz" are mutually exclusive, or indeed, even oppose one another. I've both run and played in games which had a rich backstory and lots of roleplaying going on, and which had the ranger dual wielding bastard swords - and that was...

    Beastmaster: Best for concept rangers.

I don't see the problem. Investing for a 20 in your attack stat should pay off. If you don't hit more often than the guy who spends points in other stats, what's the point? It was the broken AC vs. BAB curve in 3.5 that made most attacks powered by a decent attack score automatic hits. Also...

    Dragon abilities

I actually decided that everyone is always at the highest XP value for my games to prevent exactly this problem. I see no reason to 'punish' players who can't always show up, and encounter balancing is a lot easier. 1-2 levels of difference might not seem much, but I'm planning to work the tiers...

No cost to Knock Creatures Unconscious?!

But isn't the whole point of 'possible information' the possible part? If you don't want them to know anything useful: bam, you're good. Maybe they lie, or make up stuff just to stop the PC's from hurting them further. I've had my players do this too, the first few sessions. They knocked out...

Help Please: Losing Cleric - How to Replace with Magic Items?

Why not just give one of your other characters an item that allows them to use Healing Word twice per encounter? Give it to a character who normally doesn't really use his minor action much (e.g. fighter, rogue), and wam, instant cleric. No need to completely overhaul the rules for healing.

Forked Thread: Can Illusionary Pit be used on a flying creature?

This. Seriously, this is why rogues can now sneak attack basically anything, 100% resistances are very rare, and mind-affecting spells work on undead. Having your entire character concept rendered useless by a monster type or special ability is simply not fun or interesting, and making the game...

Making a Samurai: AC and Armor problem

If you're going anime style, why not Musashi dual-wield? The Tempest Fighter might work (since they're better in light armor/chainmail), or else Ranger. I think more Ranger than Fighter when I think of Samurai, personally, since they tended to be lightly armoured, good ranged fighters that are...

D&D 4E In 4e combat, is an ooze as tall as a human?

Jellies stretch. That's why they can reach and smack things around, threaten areas, and so on.

D&D 4E [4e] Wizard as good as a Fighter in Standard Melee

The way in which 4th seperates competence with weapons (and similar attacks) is two-fold. First, proficiency. Proficiency implies the character in question has had extensive training with the weapon and knows how to wield it, and provides a +2 to a +3 bonus to attack. Note that a wizard has to...

    D&DI Character Builder Beta

I gave it a try last night, and put together a couple of characters in under 20 minutes. Very impressive, I would say. The power card generation system is also very nice (I'm personally not a fan of the standard character sheet), and I'll definitely use it in the future. My only complaint is...
