"So where do Zenythri come from?" "Ya see, when a human and a... hmmm..."

Dozen, this is a public messageboard. Just because you post a thread, that does not give you the right to dictate what can and cannot be posted in that thread. If you think a post is objectionable or disruptive, feel free to bring up with the mods, but I hardly think it productive to argue about it.

What is your favorite excuse why a character is not in the adventure?

Ideally, a "normal" adventure like a expedition into the dungeon, or short wilderness trek is over by the end of the session IM. That way a new group can form each session from whomever is able to show up that session, just like the Blackmoor and Greyhawk campaigns. However, I only have two...

Coup de Grace A troll with fire resistance Question

It will grow back. Actually, depending on the edition it would grow into two trolls.

Do we live in the d20 Dark Ages?

D&D will be a viable tabletop RPG regardless of the involvement of WotC. D&D is about the players not the company that makes it. For that matter it doesn't matter to me if it says D&D on the books. Pathfinder, Labyrinth Lord, etc. It's all D&D to me.

When the party gets too big

Did you somehow not see the rest of my post? If you want more details, you can check out the posts of Old Geezer over at rpg.net, or perhaps Gary Gygax's posts on these boards touch on the subject.

When the party gets too big

I suggest you do what Gygax did. He could have as many as about fifteen players at once, but ran for as little as one at a time.

    CORELINE (D20 Modern/D20 BESM Setting).

I suspect it might be sponsored by the megacorporations. They might be able to force goverments into accepting it and other such things. Also I thought came to me while watching the Deep Space Nine Episode "Doctor Bashir, I Presume". Given the Federation's views of genetic engineering, what...

Well, as for death sports there is XCrawl.

    Dominaria: Campaign/Adventure ideas

Well I'd have the PCs basically be the equivalent of creature cards from the CCG. Thus they'd be the servants of a Planeswalker, doing various missions for them. They may or may not actually be summoned.

    CORELINE (D20 Modern/D20 BESM Setting).

That's no Moon! No, Coreline's moon hasn't been replaced by a Death Star, but large portions of the core have been replaced by artificial installations, such as the ship of the Spiral King Lord Genome, Cathedral Terra and the ship of the human-like Fury race, from Super Robot Wars Judgement...

    Strip "Background" out of classes

Thing is a ranger's skill with woodslore and the like isn't a part of it's "background" it's part of the skill set for the class. Or at least it should be.

The need for monsters as beings rather than statblocks.

If you're playing a hack and slash campaign maybe. As a DM I do "play" the monsters, and control their interactions with players. These may be hostile or not. The more information I have, the easier it becomes to run the game.

D&D Has Never Been Suitable for Generic Fantasy

I would basically agree. However there has always been room in D&D for different groups to do their own thing. While I would be disappointed if the next iteration of D&D jettisoned the traditions of D&D, like I think that 4e did in many cases, there should be a sense that DMs are not constrained...

Why I Think Rolling For Hit Points is a Bad Thing

I for one hope that the fact that some people don't like rolling for hit points doesn't mean the possibility of rolling for hit points is eliminated in the rules.

    D&D 5E (2014) Does D&D Next need a Core Setting?

I don't like the Time of Troubles, but at least it didn't have to deal with the natures of certain creatures being changed to something completely different. What do you do when a creature shows up that doesn't exist in 4e? How do you deal with dragonborn and eladrin?
  17. Lord Zack

    D&D 5E (2014) Does D&D Next need a Core Setting?

You either: made changes to the settings in order to incorporate the changes made to various creatures in 4e, or modified creatures in 4e to be more like they're previous versions, right? I don't want to have to either of those. Nor should I have to if the name on the books is "Dungeons and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Does D&D Next need a Core Setting?

In 4th edition, yes. That's why so many people didn't like it. In every other version of D&D someone could run Greyhawk with just the core rulebooks, without having to modify any races or monsters.

    D&D 5E (2014) Does D&D Next need a Core Setting?

Because if Wizards of the Coast decides that halflings are river dwelling wanderers or archons are elemental warriors, the mechanics are going to reflect that.

    D&D 5E (2014) Does D&D Next need a Core Setting?

Wizards of the Coast wants my money and the way their going to get it is by releasing a version of D&D that retains what makes D&D unique instead of almost being the developers' personal fantasy heartbreaker that is only called D&D because they have the copyright, like 4th edition was. I don't...
