Pathfinder 1E What does your Pathfinder game and game world look and feel like?

Just curious about how people are running their Pathfinder games. As an oldschooler I do believe that their is a Batman/Spiderman analogy that works well with describing how a game plays out. Batman being the older style of play where life is a lot dicier for a player and Spiderman as an example...

    Pathfinder 1E I hate Paizo!

If 3E players are cavemen us oldschoolers must be the race of serpentmen that ran the show before humans arrived. Beware, those who sing the praises of 4e, you will be called grognards when 6e, then 10e comes out. I find the charm of Pathfinder not in the setting, but in the game. While...

Pathfinder 1E School me on Pathfinder

I don't see why one would use this setting, but not the rules. As a setting it is ok, but nothing that cannot be cobbled together on your own. The rules set isn't that bad at all, and for a retro-clone, the presentation is pretty flash compared to the others.

Spells which were not properly nerved...

I don't see anything wrong with a Save or Die situation since that is one of the consequences of not being a peasant or villager. Once you are insane enough to strap on weapons and armor and go out into the wilderness to explore dungeons and kill monsters then you forfeit the safe and...

    2 New Classes Announced

My vote: Keep it simple. More books equal more rules. A few supplements like a planar book and maybe a book on environments wouldn't hurt, but is there a need for an Asian or Middle-Eastern themed book? Possibly put them together with a South America and Africa-esque "alternate worlds/alternate...

Pathfinder 1E Whinge about Pathfinder RPG availabilty

I just happened to luck into a copy at Noble Knight in mint condition, then picked up the Bestiary at the local Hastings store. Now to convince my oldschool group to try it out.... They will, the book is too beautiful not to give a try.

Are Kids interested in Pen & Paper RPGs?

Drat! That is true. I did have a father and son play C&C and the son was 16, but with the S&W/Labyrinth Lord game 20 is the youngest currently, although a 16 year old did play a one-off, but I wouldn't consider that a group, just a try-out session. But yes, I did just age myself. At least I am...

Are Kids interested in Pen & Paper RPGs?

My Labyrinth Lord group ranges in age from 20 to 40. So yes, young people are into Pen and Paper games and some even are into the Old School games!

    Game Systems to Try

When getting away from D&D-like games for a breather I run: The Burning Wheel/Mouse Guard Hollow Earth Expedition CthulhuTech Mutants & Masterminds 2 True20 I really loved the original Deadlands system and I need to pick up Savage Worlds to see what that is like.

Edition War Across the Net or Where Have You Been?

Life is too short for edition wars, that is time that could be used gaming with the edition that you enjoy. I don't see many people seriously attacking the newer games on the oldschool boards, even. Sure, there are a few quips, but I rarely see bile (which is good, bile is a bit disturbing to...

I really enjoyed hearing about the game, I enjoy the oldschool ambiance. Looking forward to the next installment.

How hard to find oop books?

While a firm proponent of the simulacrums, I find that seeking out and acquiring 1E and any D&D from b/x and after to be fairly easy. I do, however, detest a lot of ebay sales because I rarely see things arrive in a condition that I would sell something in without feeling a bit guilty. I have...

    Retro Clones

I am not going to open up the "More than a feeling" post here by that troublemaker Maliszewski, but age is absolutely NO factor with these games. A friend's son, 16 years old, bought the 4e PHB and returned it, preferring to play Labyrinth Lord and now, this weekend, a bit of S&W as well with us...

    Retro Clones

With the retro-clone movement there is little need to use your old gaming material. Brand new books with additional material and a lot of rules being clarified and expanded upon in a concise manner? Plus, I prefer to keep my original books in decent condition. Playing with the original material...

    Retro-gaming

Slightly back on topic: Don't think for a moment that all of us who play retro-games are old geezers and that this is all about nostalgia. I run Labyrinth Lord and that might be a bit of nostalgia there, I admit, but I also run Swords & Wizardry, and I was 5 when that came out. To add to this, a...

The Old School Revolution is here and we are all out of bubblegum... With the founding of TARGA and the tremendous support that the Old School Revolution has, there is more than enough room for people who prefer OD&D OR 4E (or any game in between) to co-exist peacefully and respect each...

Ideas for unusual or deadly cults wanted!

It is hard to get by without at least a couple of snake cults and their serpentman adherents.
