WotC Ray Winninger Is Head of D&D RPG Team; Mike Mearls No Longer Works on RPG

It came out during the whole Zak S and ROG Pundit issue. I think Mearls was trying to do the right thing, but totally went the wrong way about it.

WotC Ray Winninger Is Head of D&D RPG Team; Mike Mearls No Longer Works on RPG

Pure speculation, but I wonder if his role in giving Zac S the names of his accusers left him in an awkward spot.

WotC Ray Winninger Is Head of D&D RPG Team; Mike Mearls No Longer Works on RPG

I absolutely loved Ray’s original Dungeoncraft articles about world building. They really inspired me. I still have a word doc of all of the articles that I copied, pasted and combined together from the D&D website many, many years ago.

D&D 5E (2014) Temple of Elemental Evil is the next Original Adventures Reincarnated

My current DM may pick this up. He ran us through the 3.5E version of RttToEE and another in my group ran us through PotA. Might be interesting to see how a 5E update of the original compares.

Crowdfunding News – Galaxies in Peril, Fantasy City Sites and Scenes, and More

Yep, works well for me too. I can use my minimal creative talents to spin your ideas and hooks into something that I know will work well for my group. Saves me a lot of time and frustration that way.

Crowdfunding News – Galaxies in Peril, Fantasy City Sites and Scenes, and More

Unfortunately for me, my creative side is quite weak. I’m quite good at building on the ideas of others, but not so much at making things from whole cloth myself, so the need to create isn’t super strong. That and I’m super lazy! :)

Crowdfunding News – Galaxies in Peril, Fantasy City Sites and Scenes, and More

I just marvel at how he manages to do that. I barely manage to play a fortnightly D&D game while working full time and spending time with my wife, kids and hobbies. Yet he somehow manages to be CEO of SJG and do his own creative Kickstarters on the side! Way to make a guy feel inadequate Phil...

The Yellow King RPG Has Arrived

Is $55 for 4 PDFs totalling over 700 pages eye watering by today’s standards? I think I’ve paid that much or more for similar amounts of digital content. I’m not sure I’ll be buying it, but that’s due to not having enough time to play the RPGs I already own, rather than because I’m not...

Fantasy Grounds Stats Show Massive Pandemic Bump

My group had our first ever online session last week on Fantasy Grounds. We’ve probably got 100 years of tabletop experience between us, but zero online experience, so it took us a bit of time to get our head around how it actually worked, and I’m sure there will be quite a bit more of the...

Crowdfunding News: The Greatest Thieves in Lankhmar, Monsters! Monsters RPG, and more

Are people still backing Kickstarters in the current environment? I’m fortunate enough to be in an area where I still have a job, but I’m still not backing anything at the moment due to the massive uncertainty the whole world will be dealing with over the next 12 months or more.

    Very experienced groups?

Myself and 1 other player have been playing together for about 13 years. Another for about 12 years. The remaining 4 have been playing in our group for about a decade. So that’s 78 years just playing together in our group between the 7 of us. Myself and the other original member have about a...

How has the Coronavirus affected your roleplaying games?

It will be interesting to see how our group goes. We range in age from early 30’s to mid-60’s, so there is a fair age gap. I’m nearly 40, but am fairly good at learning new stuff, so hopefully the learning curve isn’t too bad. It looks like online will be the only way forward for the next 6...

How has the Coronavirus affected your roleplaying games?

I’m in Australia, so we’re about a week behind the rest of the world in virus terms. We had a face-to-face session on Wednesday, but one of the players didn’t attend as his mother is recovering from cancer, so didn’t want to put her at risk. I’m all but certain our next session will be online...

D&D General GaryCon Cancelled Because Of Caronavirus Pandemic

If 20% of the world’s population get Coronavirus, a 3% mortality rate (which is lower than the current mortality rate) would see over 46 million people die from it worldwide. So I’m hoping we don’t see that, but it is definitely possible.

D&D 5E (2014) Player roles that no longer exist, and why

One role we currently have in our group that isn't mentioned here is chronographer who, unlike the note taker, keeps track of what events happened on what dates in the campaign. We also have: Note taker - Writes down the names of all the various NPCs and bits of important info we come across...

Monte Cook Games’ Next Kickstarter Is Ptolus (for 5E and Cypher)

You're doing a good job Whizbang Dustyboots of getting me off the fence and on the Ptolus train for a second time.

Crowdfunding News: Altered Carbon, Hunter: The Vigil 2e, Ultimate Guide to Alchemy, and more

I think it might be something you either love or just don’t see the use or value for. To me looks like it would raise the height of the board to a point where you might need to stand up in order to get a good view of what’s going on. Plus I achieve pretty much the same result for a lot less with...

    D&D 5E (2014) Monte Cook's Ptolus Kickstarter Has Launched

It was a pre-order +some extra printed. Understandable given it was over $100, so was breaking new RPG ground at the time, so there was a lot of uncertainty about how well it would sell.

    D&D 5E (2014) Monte Cook's Ptolus Kickstarter Has Launched

I’m in this position also. I own the original Ptolus hardcover, but have not run a campaign set there. Given I’ve had the book for 14 years, but haven’t run a campaign set there, I’m not sure if it’s worth me paying $150 + shipping to get mostly the same stuff converted to 5E. On the other...
