    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

If you are going to invoke that fact that EGG allowed any race for PC's in his early games; Then you have to acknowledge the opinion he formed about allowing any race for PC's based on those early experiences. Gygax had a lot to say about this on p.21 of the AD&D DMG: 'The Monster as a Player...

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

I disagree. The poster I replied to clearly stated: I took this at face value. Why read something else into it? I was not contradicted by the OP. I then explained, by citing the dictionary definitions of the words 'compromise' and 'accommodation' exactly why accomodation was the more clear...

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

I did quote the following in my response: The player got the Tortle mechanics that they wanted. They gave up nothing fundamental from what they really wanted to play. All the actual concessions were made by the GM. So not unfruitful. Simply accurate. In the responses I was able to elicit...

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

Thank you. I know exactly where you stand now. When you are listing main characters like that - this standard can apply to any fantasy setting: Game of Thrones? John Snow, white walkers, Danerys, 3 dragons, Tyrion, Arya, that red flame lady, etc,... The Witcher? The Witcher, Yennifer, Elves...

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

Once again, I'm curious where the line is here... Let's say a GM decides to run a game using The Lord of the Rings™ Roleplaying for 5e. Everyone says that they're down; but come game day one player breaks out the standard PHB... Because it is a D&D based game; do you feel it is valid for a...

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

I'm curious where the line is here... Let's say a GM decides to run a game using The Lord of the Rings™ Roleplaying for 5e. Because it is a D&D based game; do you feel it is valid for a player to be able to create a PC from the D&D PHB that would otherwise not be typical in the setting of...

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

Not necessarily. I just feel that we should tell it like it is with plain speech. I believe that when people used the word 'compromise', when what is really happening is 'accommodation'; it has caused undue confusion, and frustration when it comes to understanding where people really stand...

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

Ok then. Settled. I do think a lot of the back and forth is due to the way the word 'Compromise' has been used. I believe that it is causing some confusion, and mutual frustration. Because a lot of us seem to be thinking this: Compromise noun An agreement or a settlement of a dispute that...

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

Yet another way to read it is that everybody was told what the campaign was about before hand, and all the other players agreed to accommodate the GM's request. But come game time, one player still wants to have a discussion about playing a restricted race, and expects the GM to come up with...

Sam the GM decides to run a game using The Lord of the Rings™ Roleplaying for 5e. Because it is a D&D based game; do you feel it is valid for a player to be able to create a PC from the D&D PHB that would otherwise not be typical in the setting of Middle Earth? If not, why?

    D&D 5E (2014) We Would Hate A BG3 Campaign

If a GM has a restrictive setting, that he springs upon his players, then there is a discussion to be had. GM: "Let's play D&D!" Players: "Sounds cool, We're there!" Game Night: GM: "Ok, so we're playing D&D, but in my setting of Acktuallia; No Tieflings, Dragonborn, or filthy Halflings!"...

OD&D Keep on the Borderlands, some observations

Well, Acktually... https://mysteriesofgreyskull.tripod.com/Articles/MOTUbible.htm Given the disagreements people have over Wotc's lore changes to Forgotten Realms. He-Man fans are in good company! And this is why B2 generates such fond memories No B2 game is played the same way twice. It...

D&D General D&D as a Game- On the Origin of Hit Points and Start of the Meat Debate

I really liked what Mongoose D20 conan did; as you kind of got the best of both worlds. Your Parry and Evade were rolled against like armor class, and armor was Damage reduction. (Parry and evade could be made to work like in WFRP/RQ, but the just gave you the average roll of 10+ you skill...

WotC [Updated!] Hasbro Laying Off 1,100 Employees

A worthy dream, but unfortunately unlikely. Filing for Bankruptcy is very unlikely to end Hasbro. Corporations really don't like to file because it usually involves changes at the top... But the likely result if Hasbro files for bankruptcy is that they come to a deal with their creditors on...

WotC [Updated!] Hasbro Laying Off 1,100 Employees

I'd be shocked if it wasn't. Even though WotC via Magic is the big money maker for Hasbro, corps are utterly indiscriminate in how they cut their future ex-employee's off at the knees.
