    Unpopular opinions go here

More objectively true Salty epiphanies from my meditations: I'm over making excuses for sloppy game design. When you say that you have worked on a game for x number of years; Why must I still Un-Bork your system when it hits my table? Too many of the industries established names make product...

    R. Talsorian updates on Cyberpunk RED, The Witcher, and a new secret project

Nobody is saying it's "harder" to run vs CP2020. As was said in a previous post; in many ways CPRed was a step in the right direction. (Netrunning is a good example) The "Grognard's Lament" here is that considering all the development time CP Red has had, it still had systematic issues on...

    R. Talsorian updates on Cyberpunk RED, The Witcher, and a new secret project

This is true. The problem is that it was also a bit of lightning in a bottle, and in my opinion it is apparent that Pondsmith doesn't really get what it is about CP2020 that tickles the fanbases funny bone. Much like what has happened with Vampire the Masquerade... The fanbase likes it to do...

    R. Talsorian updates on Cyberpunk RED, The Witcher, and a new secret project

Keeping things more in-line with the crunch level of the Quickstart was the way they should have gone. Cut the skill list in half, keep crits at just +10 over defense. And honestly defenses could be made static, speeding up combat by a lot. I also think that hit locations should only be...

    R. Talsorian updates on Cyberpunk RED, The Witcher, and a new secret project

This is what really makes it a waste. It's the same for The Witcher. There are some ideas I actually like. It's just that it seems that they chose to implement them in the most clunky way that they could think of. Just lots of little things that all added up when you actually sat down to play.

    R. Talsorian updates on Cyberpunk RED, The Witcher, and a new secret project

This is all completely inexcusable given the amount of time Pondsmith says he worked on the game. There is still a enthusiastic CP2020 community out there. Would it have been so hard for him to go: "Hey, been working on CPRed. Want groups to playtest the living **** out of it, and help me make...

    R. Talsorian updates on Cyberpunk RED, The Witcher, and a new secret project

It's not. Because it's not a very good game. I know. I have it, and have played it. I'm a big Witcher fan (Books). I really, really, wanted to like this game. The System just has way too many fiddly bits for what it is trying to do. The Witcher RPG is as if someone set out to design an...

    D&D Movie/TV D&D Movie Hit or Flop?

You don't know that. You don't know what any of the rankings mean in terms of actual revenue numbers.

And still no idea of what what that means in terms of actual earned revenue.

    D&D Movie/TV D&D Movie Hit or Flop?

So even with having access to the actual financials of the film; Hasbro was wrong to write-down 25 million? HaT vs. Willow is a classic example of the write-down vs. a write-off. Hasbro did a write-down, taking a loss for tax purposes - but not a full write off. Because while a flop at the...

    D&D Movie/TV D&D Movie Hit or Flop?

There is no context for what any of those VOD 'rankings' actually mean in terms of revenue earned. We do know this though:

D&D 5E (2014) The skill system is one dimensional.

Assuming that you are referring to 5e D&D - in many way it is a game that design wise is still bound by nostalgic expectations. That being said; the idea of Skills working the same way that Magic does has a far better chance of gaining traction than converting D&D's magic system to some kind...

D&D 5E (2014) The skill system is one dimensional.

I tend to agree. But the OP's objection was the asymmetry specific to D&D of Magic vs. Skills. The most direct solution to address his complaint would be to make the disparate systems symmetrical - going one direction or the other. MuhVerisimilitude's seems to want to try and fill in holes...

D&D 5E (2014) The skill system is one dimensional.

Well, that makes your stance crystal clear. That is the core issue. Which doesn't change my assessment in my previous post: "You either need to make spells work like skills, or skills work like spells." If your alternative system uses a die-roll; then you are just creating yet another...

D&D 5E (2014) The skill system is one dimensional.

That's because Spells and skills in D&D work on completely disparate systems. If you want True Symmetry; you either need to make spells work like skills, or skills work like spells. One or the other. Making an alternate skill system that still doesn't work like spells do will not get you...

Dragonbane Offers A Box Full Of Classic Fantasy

Yes, yes we are. And it is glorious. I'm GenX, and Ducks are just silly. They are cartoon animals... When there is a specific genre niche, anthropomorphic animals can be done well. But they are the exceptions, not the rule. Stuff like TMNT and Usagi Yojimbo was always a bit tongue in...

Dragonbane Offers A Box Full Of Classic Fantasy

In my opinion Symbaroum solve the issues that I had with roll low systems by making all the rolls player facing. I was really hoping that the new DoD would be a streamlined, and cleaned up version of that; with more general fantasy tropes that would make it easier for me to insert into my own...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D 5e Post-Mortem

I'm not saying that they are ignorant. I'm saying that they don't care. Not even a little bit. It is what it is; Most people that play D&D are incurious about other games because they are getting what they want from D&D. Even when they know about other games; they still don't want to try out...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D 5e Post-Mortem

It's not. D&D is the most popular RPG because it was first, good enough, and has maintained its market leader position. None of those are bad things. If the game paradigm that D&D offers hits your sweet spot, there is nothing wrong with liking it. I'm merely pointing out that for the vast...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D 5e Post-Mortem

Yes, This is called: "Good Enough". D&D has the largest network effect of players and GM's. It is by far the easiest RPG to find a game to play in, or to find players for. People just want to game, and as long as the system is good enough that it does not actively hinder the path of least...
