    Do you pull the chain?

No, it's using my knowledge about the game to pick a position from which I can play the game. I didn't say (or imply) that my character thought it was a bad thing. My character may think it's an unwise thing to impulsively take action without some knowledge of the consequences. Possible...

    Do you pull the chain?

And very deliberately not pulling the chain, and advising your companions against it, because you have an 18 Wisdom ... also a cop-out? (But wait ... I haven't said whether I, as a player of the game, want to pull the chain or not.) We apparently have very different ideas of what a roleplaying...

    Do you pull the chain?

So when somebody says "metagaming," you don't have an idea what he or she means?

    Do you pull the chain?

Why in the world would I create a character who wanted those things? (Or, if I did create a character who wanted those things, why in the world would I not morph his goals away from those things?) I think you're confusing "gaming" and "metagaming."

    Do you pull the chain?

Isn't having your PC pull the chain "because the DM <whatever>" an example of blatant metagaming? Why is that okay in this case (if your opinion is that metagaming is usually "not okay")?

    Do you pull the chain?

After IronWolf has triggered the clever (and deadly) trap under the chain, I pull the chain, careful not to slip in IronWolf's blood and viscera.

    Mutants & Masterminds 3rd Edition

Keep in mind that Batman might have an "advantage," analogous to 2E's Skill Mastery feat, that makes Stealth and Perception always "routine" (that is, a Take 10 check) for him. Being able to Take 10 when attacking a minion is also in 2E.

    Mutants & Masterminds 3rd Edition

The "degrees of success" thing looks interesting. I wonder if the "see what the dice tell you, then ask the player for description" thing is explicitly recommended in the GM section of the book? I personally tend to waffle back and forth between that and the "tell me what you're trying to do...

    BSG Saturday Evening

    I'll be there. Thanks.

    BSG Saturday Evening

I'm confused, and I'm not embarrassed to admit it. Can somebody give me an unambiguous summary of the BSG-on-Saturday situation?

How much back story for a low-level PC?

I think the poll has perfectly replicated a sideways Cisco logo.

How much back story for a low-level PC?

As a GM, I ask for a couple of paragraphs. More is fine, but people who can produce more quality back-story are pretty rare. As a player, I range from a couple of paragraphs up to multiple pages (even occasionally a short story), depending on several factors: how much of the character is...

    Mutants & Masterminds 3rd Edition

I was just re-reading, and realized you could have meant what I said. Sorry for not catching it earlier and giving you the benefit of the doubt. I dunno why, but I like GL, even though I normally hate "gimmick" characters. For some reason, the power-ring thing just doesn't bother me ... maybe...

    Mutants & Masterminds 3rd Edition

Not necessarily. If they kept 15 PP per PL, a PL 14 is 210 PP. Pretty close to GL's 216. And they did say that the numbers between 2E and 3E would be almost completely interchangeable. I'd say that this GL is very experienced ... but that his PL has kept up with his experience, not that he...

    Sounds pretty cool. Congrats.

    Mutants & Masterminds 3rd Edition

Did y'all do Plastic Man's "must remain red and gold" as a Drawback, or as a Flaw? It seems too big to be a Drawback, but not big enough to be a Flaw. That particular "Drawback or Flaw?" question seems to come up a lot in my game, so I'm just curious.

    Mutants & Masterminds 3rd Edition

My nerd-peeve wasn't actually based on the M&M3E PLs. Superman himself we can all agree on, right? And Superman himself says that Martian Manhunter is the most powerful being on Earth. Thus, the two most powerful superheroes on Earth are aliens. (BTW, I of course don't know how the DC book...

    Mutants & Masterminds 3rd Edition

And apparently lots and lots of them. I have to admit to being a little nerd-peeved that the two most powerful superheroes on Earth are both aliens.

Steve Kenson's ICONS: Superpowered Roleplaying from Adamant Entertainment

I'm not doubting you. I just find it odd, since -- completely objectively speaking -- (2d6)-7 is one more computational step than 1d6-1d6. (I suppose they're the same, if you count "pick the red die" as a step.)

    Mutants & Masterminds 3rd Edition

I would rather have seen either of those in place of Nightwing. (Don't get me wrong, Nightwing is probably my favorite DCU character, but you need to have Robin in there -- who is, BTW, now Red Robin, the current Robin being Damian Al Ghul Wayne -- and you don't need both of them.) Atom would...
