    D&D 5E (2014) [D&D 5E] Ruins of Adventure (OOC)

Just curious: what's everyone's time zones? I'm East Coast.

    D&D 5E (2014) Ruins of Adventure [IC]

Cruciger approaches the other passengers gathered on the dock. "Good morning, such as it is. Are any of you locals to this place? For the first time in my life, I seem to lack direction."

    D&D 5E (2014) Ruins of Adventure [IC]

Cruciger Vulpes waits for the boat to come to a full stop before stepping uncertainly onto the dock. The smell on the air makes him wince. A lean and wiry elf, he has a face full of lupine features framed beneath a loose crown of reddish hair that drops slightly below his shoulders. He can't...

D&D 5E (2014) MUSING: An Evergreen, static Fifth Edition...

I'd be okay with that. I'd rather get a trickle of material that's well thought out, balanced, worthwhile, than an avalanche of junk that is poorly written, unbalanced, and ridiculous.

D&D 5E (2014) Help me come up with a property for a magic flail

Maybe build on the glow ability? Something like, once per day or some such, it can flash brightly when it strikes a foe, blinding it?

I'm fine to start but no worries if the consensus is to wait.

D&D 5E (2014) Rogues' Gallery: Ruins of Adventure

Just updated my sheet. All the technical stuff is there. Don't really have a backstory other than the barebones stuff. Mind if I come up with it as I go?

Any restrictions on race, etc? Was thinking of going with a Wood Elf Druid.

Great. I will pore over my 5E materials tonight and put together a character.

    D&D 5E (2014) [D&D 5E] Ruins of Adventure (OOC)

Interested! Been itching to try out 5E. No idea what I'd play yet but it would probably be something vanilla-- maybe an MU of some sort. Got a spot open?

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Races vs. Monsters (take away lessons on converting)

There has to be some decoupling because, mechanically, NPCs/monsters serve a different purpose with different responsibilities than PCs. Ideally, the system should supply mechanisms to move creatures back and forth-- what they tried to do with ECLs I guess-- but I think that's much easier said...

Very cool. It's sounds like you did an awesome job.

My encounters were linked as well. My first encounter was exploration of an area surrounding a ruined temple and the second encounter was combat at the temple itself.

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Races vs. Monsters (take away lessons on converting)

Okay so, for example, what would your PC Medusas look like?

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Races vs. Monsters (take away lessons on converting)

So how would you account for the fact that, mechanically, PCs and NPCs are not identical? A PC is meant to be played with its ability use spread and managed over the length of a session (or multiple sessions) whereas an NPC/monster is generally meant to go all-in during a single encounter.

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Races vs. Monsters (take away lessons on converting)

My stab at an answer would be that while all the other medusas spend their days practicing their medusa-ness, PC medusa is out adventuring and gaining her class abilities. This is, I think, what is being said above and I agree. I'm not sure how I would handle a PC wanting to level their...
