    D&D 5E (2014) Banishment and swallowed creatures

RAW it affects one creature. If it was grappling another creature, that wouldn't be banished too. Or if it was carrying a creature: you couldn't get rid of both a mount and it's rider. You couldn't banish a dragon by casting banishment on the dude riding it (or grappling it). But rulings not...

    D&D and the rising pandemic

Man, it's extra frustrating as a Canadian. Our economy is intertwined with America, so it's in both of our interests if the pandemic is managed and business can resume. But America seems dead set in resuming too soon and too fast, which will likely cause a spike in cases that hurts our economy...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e most conservative edition yet? (In terms of new settings)

TSR was very successful. They had THE best selling RPG game, which was a license to print money. A constant revenue stream. The continued sales of the core rulebooks and key accessories sustained the company despite bad decision after bad decision. It took many years, but eventually the money...

D&D General Best "out of the box" ready to run adventures/modules?

Princes of the Apocalypse. Backstory? Largely irrelevant. Plot? None. Investigation? Negligible. NPCs? Minor. All you need to do is read what's going on in each adjacent room of the dungeon.

    D&D 5E (2014) I want all the D&D ... what will it cost?

I think that's how much it would have cost to get "everything D&D" after just three years of 4e or 3e... (Adjusted for inflation of course.)

D&D General Must haves from the DMs Guild? (Preparing my last meal)

I'm fond of my stuff: Dungeon Masters Guild (But I know there's a lot of fierce competition, so if you see anything you want there but can't justify buying with all the other amazing stuff on the Guild send me a DM and I'll forward a code for a copy.) Xanathar's Lost Notes to Everything Else...

D&D 5E (2014) Favorite things in the playtest that never made it

I like how "poisoned" was called "intoxigated". I liked that better.

D&D 5E (2014) 5e most conservative edition yet? (In terms of new settings)

Ravenloft started as Hickman's annual Halloween adventure. It might have been set in his homebrew world or just been off to the side. But he ran it a lot. It wasn't a "setting" per se. And when they did decide to make Ravenloft into a setting, they didn't consult Hickman, who had already left...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e most conservative edition yet? (In terms of new settings)

Except that Tal'Dorei isn't Wildemount, despite being on the same world. An element of the world being published elsewhere doesn't make Wildemount unoriginal or unofficial or not published by WotC. It's selectively defining the terms to get the result desired (most conservative edition) by...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e most conservative edition yet? (In terms of new settings)

Mercer AND the trio of freelancers who worked on the book, all of which have worked repeatedly with WotC. And then edited by WotC, who likely also gave some input and did some rewrites. And, again, if Wildemount doesn't count, neither does the Realms...

D&D 5E (2014) What would you want in a new 5E box set?

How would such a product be different from: https://dnd.wizards.com/products/tabletop-games/board-card-games/tomb-annihilation ?

D&D 5E (2014) What would you want in a new 5E box set?

I used to be gung-ho about boxed sets back in the 2000s. Nostalgic for getting the cool boxes for 2e. They are a nice way of getting a protected softcover book, and it's neat for adventures: a softcover adventure in one booklette and a gazetteer in the second. Plus other odds and ends like...

    D&D General Next Generation VTT

It's hard enough finding good maps for flat VTTs. I can't imagine going 3D and having to model your own. Even if it was a tileset like NWN2 where you could place items and build maps, positioning items and scultpting 3D terrain is massive pain and some advanced design. Not something...

D&D 5E (2014) What would you want in a new 5E box set?

Let's see. The set of minis with three Smalls, two Medium, and one Large is $18. And four Medium and three Small is the same price. So an all-in-one mini game with five PCS, two goblins, two kobolds, two orcs, and an ogre will retail for $36... before accounting for the rules booklette or dice...

D&D 5E (2014) What would you want in a new 5E box set?

They already have miniature boxed sets: https://www.miniaturemarket.com/wzk96015.html https://www.miniaturemarket.com/wzk72929.html https://www.miniaturemarket.com/wzk72980.html

D&D 5E (2014) 5e most conservative edition yet? (In terms of new settings)

I'm still curious why Wildemount doesn't count. Yeah, it was originally created by a non-WotC employee for their home game. But the exact same could be said about the Forgotten Realms. Does that mean it's not an original D&D world either? You could just as easily make the argument Eberron...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e most conservative edition yet? (In terms of new settings)

I think that was a different era of UA when they were still using it for rando content and sharing home brew before it only became a way to test future content. In the early days they had a lot more stuff on UA just to put out a monthly UA. I think that article even said it was someone’s home...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sell this 3.5 grognard on 5e

You don’t have to calculate DCs as a DM, building the difficulty based on a chart and list of modifiers. The world is not built on the rules of the game, and the players can’t correct you about what DC something should be. Instead, you decided what the challenge should be. There are fewer...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e most conservative edition yet? (In terms of new settings)

They’ve done many a D&D board games, but nothing 5e. The Delve system is more 4e. I imagine they’re trying not to compete with themselves this time round. Focusing on D&D rather than other games. More content that directs people to D&D rather than side games.
