D&D General Hey, are we all cool with having to buy the same book twice, or what?

But what if we really, really want digital copies. But none of those silly PDFs that require a proprietary Adobe program to edit and makes copying-and-pasting text difficult with random line breaks. Those are dumb. And PDFs only last as long as you have a hard drive and can't be replaced if...

Pathfinder 2E Actual AP Play Experience

PF1 also tended to have players healing up to full each fight. It just tended to require 10 minutes and a wand of cure light wounds. It makes for easier balance: you know how hard fights will be since the party is generally at or near 100%. (Which is also why 4e introduced short rests and...

Well... even a blind squirrel finds some nuts...

D&D General Hey, are we all cool with having to buy the same book twice, or what?

One reason to consider is that PDFs are a fixed size. They look good on desktops with a large widescreen monitor and big tablets... and that's about it. They're garbage on smaller devices. PDFs are the best way of electronically reading books 2005 has to offer. They don't work with the mobile...

D&D General What are the "dead settings" of D&D?

We know from the survey how some breakdown: D&D Monthly Survey | Dungeons & Dragons Like how FR is roughly as popular as some of the other big names, but gets more play due to Adventure Paths. But I think now it would break down like this: A - Significant active campaigning: Exandria Wide...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e most conservative edition yet? (In terms of new settings)

a I'm actually with @atanakar in this. They're trying not to reprint books we've seen before. And we have boxed sets for Stranger Things and Rick & Morty. That's pretty weird. They have a Starer Set with one-on-one play. They're experimenting with streaming shows and big public events...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e most conservative edition yet? (In terms of new settings)

I think if they managed to do another survey like that, there'd be a huge number of people playing in Exandria and it would rival the Realms in popularity and blow other settings out of the water. Financially, it makes more sense for WotC to update and reprint the Tal'Dorei guide than any other...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e most conservative edition yet? (In terms of new settings)

They didn't go from great to selling the company overnight. They went bankrupt in '97 but were in a bad way during '95 and '96 as well. Lots of companies file for bankruptcy and recover slowly. TSR filed and was immediately sold. They were in such a bad way recovery wasn't possible. They...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e most conservative edition yet? (In terms of new settings)

Yes. But neither was Ravnica. And it's unlikely Theos will as well. And there's all of five Eberron adventurers for AL, and the content isn't permitted in regular League play. You can't play an artificer in AL. But this also isn't a major factor as 95% of players don't play AL. There's millions...

D&D 5E (2014) Which three topics do you most want to receive official (WotC) treatment?

I'd like a nice Manual of the Planes/ Planescape hybrid product. Past versions have been okay, but I think the design and writing of 5e could make for the definitive guide to the planes. And Dark Sun because I think they'd add some neat races and psionics as well as a fork-tonne of monsters.

D&D 5E (2014) It is OK for a class to be the worst

That, and most "white room" tests of class balance assume average rolls of dice. Which isn't going to happen any more than playing RPS until you have an anomalous number of victories. If using a single d20, in order to get an adequate number of rolls to get a decent bell curve determining how...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e most conservative edition yet? (In terms of new settings)

Yeah. It's not a one-man-show for sure. They have (the amazing) F. Wesly Schneider from the D&D Team and Wyatt from the MtG team as the main credits. And three members of the D&D team doing "rules development". But they also have a dozen freelancer writers and four freelance editors. It's not...

D&D 5E (2014) It is OK for a class to be the worst

The argument that "_____ is the worst" bugs me. Because there's always a worst option. Something has to be at the bottom. You can't have a twelve-way tie. It's like the complaints about the Champion fighter vs the Battle Master, because in a white room test the Champion is X damage lower. But...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e most conservative edition yet? (In terms of new settings)

That and make a whole bunch of new settings didn't lead to financial success during 2e. For every Dark Sun that was a financial success, there's a Planescape that was popular but didn't sell (at time time). Or a Red Steel. Or a Council of Wyrms. Furthermore, even if the new setting is super...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e most conservative edition yet? (In terms of new settings)

True. Unless you count Ravnica and Theros. Or Wildemount. Which I imagine don't count for... reasons. Well... yeah. They have settings for days. They already have un-supported IP and trademarks that are being unused. Why add more? Why make something brand new and spend three times as long...

The adventures have always had decent names. The accessories... less so.
