D&D General Race Has No Mechanics. What do you play?

There are very few character concepts I'd be interested in playing that couldn't be done with a human character. If race had no mechanics, then my choice of race would have to have really interesting story/lore implications for me to bother - I might still play a Warforged in Eberron, for...

GMs: What Could You Use Right Now To make Your Life Easier/Better?

I run my campaign at a game shop. It would be nice to do it in my own home, though. I want to go all-in on terrain and minis, but transporting that material would be prohibitively inconvenient. Unfortunately, my home is the most remote out of anyone else's in the group.

D&D General One Piece of Art X: The Weird Art

I really like this one for its juxtaposition of classic medieval fantasy elements (the castle and princess) against.....whatever that thing is.

What Do YOU Call This Food?

I'm from Alabama and I've never seen such a thing. I would have called it a Frito nacho if that were an option on the poll, though. That's what it looks like. In what sense is this a pie?

D&D General One Piece of Art X: The Weird Art

You guys are all old. The first D&D book I ever flipped through was 2010's Player's Handbook 3. Adam Gillispie's illustration of two Shardminds has since been firmly lodged in my brain. Nevermind the silliness of there being a "male" and "female" Shardmind when these creatures are supposed to...

    D&D 5E (2024) The 2014 vs 2024 PHB Compatibility Thread

The exhaustion rules have been rewritten, but I wouldn't call thst part of the "core resolution system."

The AI Red Scare is only harming artists and needs to stop.

AI training, at least the way it is done today, is absolutely a copyright violation. That doesn't mean people's reactions to said violation is reasonable, though.

WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

This is not completely relevant to the topic at hand, but - The various AD&D 2e settings are not as incompatible as they appear at first glance. Smashing them together can make for a good time.

WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

Other than the fact that the last iteration was ten years ago. Madden and CoD are infamous for getting updated annually.

    D&D 5E (2014) New Monster Manual Cover

None of the beholder's eyes are pointed at the PC's. It could have made a temporary alliance with them, because it wants all these inferior monsters out of its lair. Maybe they've appealed to its vanity and it thinks they will become its henchmen. Or, maybe the beholder has only just silently...

WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

The OSR community already exists, supporting old editions. I don't see that WotC is any more qualified than the fans to support games they did not design.

    D&D 5E (2024) New D&D Edition's Player’s Handbook Cover Reveal

The adventurers on that cover are dead meat. Not only is the gold dragon ridiculously huge, there's a red dragon sneaking up beneath them. And I'm pretty sure the creatures in the foreground are hostile dragonborn; they look too big to be kobolds. Although...gold dragons are usually...

D&D General Less is More: Why You Can't Get What You Want in D&D

Can you elaborate on this point? I genuinely have no idea what you mean by "future-proof" here. In what sense is the 2014 spell list not future-proof, and how could be be changed to make it so?

    D&D 5E (2014) Polymorph vs. Petrified

I'd say a petrified creature is still a creature. But, if you polymorph it into a different creature, it remains petrified. So, the only way that would be helpful is if you polymorph it into something very small. Turn that man statue into a mouse statue for easy transport.

Disney Buys DC: Who Joins The MCU?

I would pick Captain Marvel Shazam and his family. The MCU currently lacks any kid heroes,* which honestly feels like an oversight, and he has more cultural cache than any of the options from Marvel's comics. *At least, now that Tom Holland is 27.
