Geek Confessional Thread 2024 [NOW 2025!]

I did not enjoy playing The Witcher when it came out, and didn't finish it. I tried again last year and still didn't like or finish it. The combat sucked, and so did Geralt as a character. I own both the sequels - I claimed the second game when it was a giveaway with Xbox Live Gold, and someone...

By sheer volume, who created the most D&D Art?

Surely then, it's the good folks at WizKids?

D&D General Does Earth (or at least a fantasy version of it) have a crystal sphere and exist in the D&D Cosmology?

That could also he why we have so little magic! The Planes are literally physically too far away to draw arcane energy from.

D&D General What is your personal Appendix N?

The Lord of the Rings: I mean, obviously. The Elder Scrolls: I like that nonhuman races have full-blown nations of their own, rather than just having lairs or even solitary cities here and there. And I like how, while the gods clearly  exist, they are mysterious enough for different cultures...

D&D General Where to divest oneself of 5E books?

If you don't care about getting money for them, your local library will almost certainly take them. That's where my 4e core books went.

D&D General Art Thread! What does a D&D wizard look like?

I don't know how to feel about her arcane nipples.

Steamforged Games Making the Tales of the Valiant Starter Set

Steamforged's history tells me this will include some good-looking (but maybe a bit too tall) miniatures.

    D&D 5E (2014) Somehow Vecna returned....

Turns out Ssaz Tam was just a clone or something. Now we've got to go to Vecna's secret planet where he's built an underground fleet of 10,000 spelljammer ships that each have planet-destroying cannons on them.

    D&D 5E (2024) Missing - 2024 Starter Set

Nah. The real reason for having a starter set isn't just to introduce new players. I mean, it is for that, but it's also to have a boxed product you can sell at mainstream retailers like Target and Wal-Mart, one that takes up less shelf space than three hardbacks and has a lower price-point.

D&D 5E (2014) What are the highlights of D&D 5th edition for you?

Advantage/disadvantage is great. It's got just the right amount of character customization to me. I don't like when character creation takes too long or is too complicated, but I don't like the cookie-cutter characters of truely old-school D&D, either. The amout of customization 5e gives you...

    D&D 5E (2014) 15 Petty Reasons I Won't Buy 5e

We know at least one fan whose feedback WotC didn't listen to, that's for sure! At least a third of the things on that list are things I like about 5e, though, so I'm not complaining.

    D&D 5E (2024) Do you plan to adopt D&D5.5One2024Redux?

Probably. It mainly depends on how interested my group is; personally, I don't need yet another slightly-different take on dungeon fantasy. But it could be good.

How Do You Decide What RPGs to Buy?

Typically I'll think, "hmm I have some money right now, I'm gonna buy an RPG book." Then I'll go to DriveThruRPG and browse what's currently most popular in print until I see one that looks neat. That, or I'll be in a bookstore or FLGS for something else and think, "hmm, while I'm here let's...

Should a TTRPG have a singular Core Rulebook or more?

My preference is for a single, all-inclusive volume. I'm much more likely to try a new game if I only have to buy one book. Buying a new game is always an impulse purchase for me, and I am way less likely to buy two books on sheet inpulse. Plus, many GM's don't run their campaigns out of their...
