Who is that Shackled City iconic?

This thread intrigued me, since we hadn't invented any Dungeon iconcs until Age of Worms, well after Shackled City wrapped up. :) So I assume you're actually talking about the wizard iconic with the quasit familiar from Savage Tide. She was featured on the cover of Dungeon #145, as well as...

Pathfinder 1E Have you played or run Paizo's Adventure Paths?

To echo Erik: This is indeed a great and helpful thread! As for why things skew away from high level, I suspect the main reason is that high level play is just too complex and unfortunately not as much fun as a result. Also... you've got to account for attrition, either from TPKs that take the...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Physical Copy

We've posted several samples of art over at our blog at Paizo from Pathfinder 2 for anyone who's interested in seeing where we're headed with the art. Basically, you can expect to see art more in the style we were working with for the magazines; as Erik mentioned above, we were VERY pressed for...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Physical Copy

The "toys" bit was an error; in the future, they'll all be declared as books.

    Calling all Graz'zt scholars!

BUT: Since this article is a 3.5 article... I thankfully don't have to include anything about this recent development whatsoever. Which is nice, since Graz'zt's already got strong ties to succubi and Malcanthet and all that.

    Calling all Graz'zt scholars!

Asmodeus got bandied about for a bit elsewhere as being Graz'zt's dad. That's an unusual choice, and one with intriguing connotations that I don't think would really work out in the end. Another theory is that Baphomet is his dad, but I have in my head that Graz'zt's a lot older than Baphomet...

    Calling all Graz'zt scholars!

I should have mentioned, of course, the fact that since this is going in Dragon, I can't use material from non-official sources. Including alternate Graz'zt-type stuff from Green Ronin products, or most (well... all) of the development he got in Gygax's Gord novels, such as the Abbat-Dolor. And...

    Calling all Graz'zt scholars!

Hey everyone! So, if you haven't heard, I'm writing a Demonomicon of Iggwilv article about Graz'zt for the shiny new online version of Dragon magazine that'll be appearing over on the Wizards of the Coast website shortly. The article's pretty much done, and I'm pretty confident I've got enough...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Physical Copy

Thanks for the kind words, everyone! It's a real buzz to actually see Pathfinder for real for me, at least, and as cool as Pathfinder 1, is, I think I can say that the ones to follow will be even better! For one... Pathfiner 1 was really rushed, and there's a few warts on it here and there...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder #1: I have it. Spoilers.

First of all, thanks for all the kind words, everyone! As for the flavor vs. crunch issue... for the most part, the mix you see in Pathfinder #1 is about what we're aiming for. The adventures themselves will generally introduce a few magic items and feats and spells and stuff now and then, and...

    WOOT!!! It's on it's way.

If anyone DOES have questions... I'll be here to answer them! Tomorrow, that is. For now? An attempt to reclaim some of the precious hours of sleep Gen Con stole from me. :)

    Last Issue of Dungeon

Well... he's using one of those claws/hands to hold a magic item. And to be honest... patching the klurichir was pretty low on the to-do list for that issue, which was 32 pages longer than normal and was worked on simultaneously to the creation of Pathfinder #1. The index alone almost made me...

Expedition to the Ruins of Greyhawk - got it!

The only thing that constrained us was the word count of the book. The folks at WotC basically told us how long the book was, gave us a rough draft outline, and then basically said, "Do what you want with this." So we pretty much knew how much room we had going in and wrote an adventure that...

    Dragon #359

Correct. In that Epic issue, Lascer was presented in an entirely different way. I always saw him as a demon lord, but at the time, it wasn't quite clear how WotC wanted to treat demon lords in 3rd edition, so I made him an advanced abomination infernal or something like that. I talked about him...

Dragon Compendium used outside Dungeon #150?

We've used the Dragon Compendium several times in Dungeon; we had a battle dancer in the 2nd Savage Tide adventure, and I believe we had a savant just a few issues ago as well. I'm pretty sure a feat or two got in here and there; some of the monsters did too, I think (the first adventure of...

What do you miss from the good ol' days?

1: Short stat blocks. 2: Monster books with multiple monsters per page. 3: Wormy. 4: Working on Dungeon magazine. (although working on Pathfinder's shaping up to be a pretty good replacemet.)

Law vs. Chaos - the forgotten conflict

The demon/elemental conflict of the Age Before Ages where the Wind Dukes took up arms against the obyriths of the Abyss is an excellent example of the Law vs. Chaos angle of things in D&D. It's a good example. But a better example is the Blood War. There's been PLENTY of prodcuts focusing on...

Are only high level monsters memorable? [Spoilers]

Actually...Viktor is illustrated in Quoth the Raven. He's a little worse for the wear, though. He's supposed to be the dude in the wheelchair.

Are only high level monsters memorable? [Spoilers]

Another thing that helps make a great villain is great art. Humans are visual creatures, and if a villain has bad (or no) art, his chances of becoming wildly popular dramatically reduce.

Are only high level monsters memorable? [Spoilers]

That villian was probably #11 on the list... he almost made it on there, but couldn't quite edge in there.
