Shadowdark Setting Looks Set To Be 2025's First Million Dollar TTRPG Crowdfunder

A bit adjacent to this is something I seen a few OSR fans (not OSR designers) speak out loud. They felt like they kept the torch burning during the "dark times" (which might be 5e or go all the way back to 3e) and thought they would be seen as mentors, teacher, or even as esteemed geek among...

Shadowdark Setting Looks Set To Be 2025's First Million Dollar TTRPG Crowdfunder

That's sad as I follow OSR youtube tastemakers like Questing Beast and Dungeon Masterpiece and they spoke highly of it. (Including De Ropp standing on his chair during Shadowdark's awards win. :ROFLMAO: ) At this point, I avoid OSR social media, especially as the posts recycle the same four or...

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

I'd say S&S was on a comeback until, sadly, Howard Andrew Jones passed away this year. His Chronicles of Hanuvar is fun (What if Hannibal had lost and was now freeing his enslaved people across the Empire.) He had just become editor of Tales From The Magician’s Skull anthology (with monster...

Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks Is Talking About AI in D&D Again

For me, this is one of those "joking/not joking" statements CEO blurt out because: If a CEO doesn't say they are "AI bullish" then he loses the investors chasing the latest buzz word If someone actually creates an AI thing that fits D&D, he can take credit for either finding it or shepherding...

    D&D 5E (2024) What's In D&D's New Starter Set?

Exactly, Free League pitches their new fantasy game, Dragonbane as Mirth and Mayhem. Which seems to translate into adventures that range from serious to a bit silly.

    D&D 5E (2024) What's In D&D's New Starter Set?

We laugh, I've seen it. One GM of mine had the table vote for Forgotten REalms back in the later days 3.5e. One player brought egg crates full of 2e books and a big smile on his face.

    D&D 5E (2024) What's In D&D's New Starter Set?

I was thinking the same thing that this has to sell to parents who are more involved with their kids as compared to how some parents were before warning labels were put on cassettes and the Satanic Panic drove a few sales towards TSR. Personally, I don't find it silly at all. I'm not a...

Cubicle 7 Announces New Horus Heresy RPG for Warhammer

From my perspective, I agree and suspect that's what the second PC is to assist with. You could also slip in troupe play, I suppose. I never got to play it, but I thought Rogue Trader was actually genius. I saw a lot of potential in that set up, including satire because nothing good ever came...

Sigil, Wizards of the Coast's VTT, Officially Launches

For me, the Nvidia manager has always sucked. It attempts to update and then gives an error message and never updates.

Sigil, Wizards of the Coast's VTT, Officially Launches

LOL! Don't forget the obligatory, "I'll never use a VTT and this one won't change my mind!" It reminds me of how many Discords now have a dedicated VTT channel. It's because chatting about any VTT stuff, especially How To questions about Foundry, just drown out everything else in a general...

Dimension 20 Crosses Over With WWE For New Season

I am not an actual play watcher or a WWE fan, however, I fully applaud this whole concept. And I don't know if this will change my mind on either of these types of entertainment, but I hope this blows minds of both D&D and WWEE fans who watch it. WWE in Ancient Greece with a "Titan Takedown"...

Invincible RPG Announced by Free League

My first guess would be to drop the concept of most supers PCs being “balanced” in a RPG; eg. Somehow justifying Batman can as effective against the same villains as Superman because Batman outthinks them. Throw that balance out the window and you’re half way to the Invincible universe.

    Dragonbane general thread

The 3pp licensing is pretty easy to use (A disclaimer and a logo), but the core guideline is that a 3pp can't change core rules. We can only add, not replace a core rule. It's more flexible than one assumes and the goal is that all 3pp will be compatible with core game. For example: Instead...

Wizards of the Coast Is Hiring a D&D Worldbuilder

I hear TORG topped this by implying the "real" hero being watched by the PCs was either the line developer or main adventure writer. Same. I feel like if you don't get into this industry young and make it through the very lean years and avoid burnout along the way, then the chances of braking...

Wizards of the Coast Is Hiring a D&D Worldbuilder

The silly answer: So the position lets you do all the fun GM prep all day without having to juggle CRs and PC levels. The less silly answer: Some of this will be the dream job for a lot of people, worldbuilding and fun outlining without the extra load of filling that outline by writing a whole...
