The Celestial Empire (Romance of the Three Kingdoms-ish, Updated 12/09/05)

   Nice ending! In fact, the whole post is well done. Keep up! ;)

How do you determine a "Real Bad Dungeon Master"

About railroading, IMX it comes in degrees, which can cause some confusion. In the end, it boils down to putting limits on PC choices and/or to the scope of their consequences, but some limitations may well be within the limits of believability. It could almost be a feat tree: Railroading...

How do you determine a "Real Bad Dungeon Master"

I would define bad DMs as those who don't listen to the players, don't admit their own mistakes and don't seek to get better. Those who DO are just inexperienced (temporarily bad ;) ) and will eventually grow out of the various mistakes already highlighted above.

The Celestial Empire (Romance of the Three Kingdoms-ish, Updated 12/09/05)

Cunning! Now, if only I could resurrect my Hard Disk after it got fried yesterday... :uhoh:

The Celestial Empire (Romance of the Three Kingdoms-ish, Updated 12/09/05)

Is Yari Ai already able to cast Raise Dead? Resurrection? Are these spells normally available - if rare - or did you houserule them with some kind or restrictions? I ask because it seems to me that most of the high-ranking movers and shakers would be rich enough to pay in advance for their own...

Wind Walk is killing my campaign!

I have none at the moment, but somebody will surely chime in with one; in the meantime, may I suggest you to run adventures that are heavily objective-driven and tight on time? If the PCs know that they need to go to Evil Temple A and that the kidnapped princess they want to rescue will be...

The Celestial Empire (Romance of the Three Kingdoms-ish, Updated 12/09/05)

It seems that Nayu's ambitions are finally taking shape: from If I ever do sit on the Jade Throne to when I ascend to the Jade Throne within he same post. :) The real question is how much will power consume him; he seems torn between a desire for justice and the lure of prepotence. Good work, EV!

    CR1 Demons in Fiend Folio?

Nope; the lowest is the Skulvyn (CR 4). :( Unless you count the fiendish symbionts (CR 1/8).

The Celestial Empire (Romance of the Three Kingdoms-ish, Updated 12/09/05)

Nothing wrong with that; in my games, some of the best moments were when everything took an unexpected direction or when strings of unlikely die rolls and in-game choices led to very bizarre rationalizations of what was happening. ;)

    Another Racial Splat?

In a sense you have already won. Races of Faerûn thematically and morally qualifies as the starter of the series; "back in 2003" certainly qualifies as "within the next two years". :p

    Another Racial Splat?

Races of Stone/Destiny/the Wild cover all the seven standard races; however, there is a fourth: Races of Eberron, for the four new Eberron races. ;)

The Celestial Empire (Romance of the Three Kingdoms-ish, Updated 12/09/05)

LOL! Witness the Conveniently Placed Pile of Manure (TM), the standard ending point of all upstart would-be villains since Biff from back to the future; real villains can afford better CGI for a more spectacular demise: being thrust into the reactor shaft shortly before the space station...

Is there an official LA+0 Drow?

In the case of that article, actually not; it gives you an ECL 0 version of the race; you then can take the two extra levels... or not.

Is there an official LA+0 Drow?

You could also use this article. Drows are the second entry, after Aasimar.

Do you ever play in Eberron?

I've been running an Eberron game since last summer; so far everybody is having a blast.

When is it okay to lose a caster level?

Feats are few, granted, but no feat can really match a couple spellcasting levels in terms of power. You must also consider all the things that spellcasting can achieve; do you want more hitpoints? A single casting of False Life will give you more extra HPs than a level of barbarian or the...

When is it okay to lose a caster level?

The problem is that spellcasting enjoys a greater than linear growth in power: it gives more spells to cast, a greater variety of spells, spells of higher level and better level-dependent values. Falling behind hurts a lot and the Practiced Spellcasting feat only gives you back the fourth point...

    Knowledge (local)

Mmmh... for the sake of completeness, here is my position about knowledge categories. I do not split Knowledge(local) between regions, like I don't split Knowledge(religion) between different cults, Knowledge(history) between different eras and so on. I have two reasons for that: 1) Because it...

    Knowledge (local)

Aha! You failed your Knowledge(Rules Lawyering) check! I guess DC 30 was a tad too much... :p Edit: following from this and the take 10 rules, IMC I assume for simplicity that everything at DC 10- will be automatically known or recalled by people with at least average intelligence. The Int 6...

    Knowledge (local)

For really basic information (say, customs of your hometown), the DC would be 10 or less - eligible for an untrained knowledge check - meaning that any Int 10 average commoner would automatically know it; ah, the wonder of taking 10! :)
