    Knowledge (local)

I subscribe to the Knowledge(Local) = streetwise camp; dividing the skill becomes overly costly. I reflect the (un)familiarity with a specific region with appropriate circumstance modifiers and by setting the basic difficulty. For example, knowing where to find the thieves' guild or what is the...

    One-shot sessions, any tips?

If players don't like pregenerated characters, ask them to create the characters beforehand; for example, you could tell them the basic premise of the game and they could e-mail their characters to you several days in advance, so that you have time to tweak the game accordingly. Alternatively...

The Celestial Empire (Romance of the Three Kingdoms-ish, Updated 12/09/05)

And did I just see a Mel Brooks' history of the world reference in there? :)

    Complete divine incarnation

Incarnation -> Visage of the deity (and likewise, spirit bear and spirit wolf in the staff of hunting spirits are named phantom wolf and phantom bear in the spell chapter) It's likely a cross-reference error; they changed the names in one chapter but forgot to correct the other chapter.

    Were-PCs and multiple PC's

Here they are. It covers all the standard lycanthropes, plus vampires, liches, gosts, half-dragons, half-demons and fiendish creatures.

Summon Undead errata (official or not)?

There is. These spells made their first 3.5 appearance in the Player's Guide to Faerûn; they were then errataed as follows (unfortunately, it wasn't corrected in Libris Mortis). Page 114: Summon Undead I Spell Add the following sentence to the spell description: “No undead creature you summon...

    "Is it an Evil Outsider??"

...uhm, no; it doesn't work that way. While you are within the appropriate environment, you get the relevant bonuses all the time, regardless of who you are facing; also, the bonus is applied to Hide, Move Silently and Knowledge(nature/dungeoneering) instead of Bluff, Sense Motive and damage...

    "Is it an Evil Outsider??"

One way to dodge the whole problem is to use the favored environment variant from Unearthed Arcana.

Either formal omosexual relationships are legal in the Empire or there is a little typo. :p

Has anyone managed to make the monk less oriental?

Please, can you post a link? Thanks.

Has anyone managed to make the monk less oriental?

You are right, there is no western heroic archetype for a warrior who uses extreme training to get super duper acrobatics, no need for armor and weapons and mystical abilities; it doesn't automatically apply to the reverse, however: magicians or supernatural creatures who do the things above...

The Celestial Empire (Romance of the Three Kingdoms-ish, Updated 12/09/05)

Of course not; slew of updates means how many there are, plus one. Always plus one. :p Oh, and madcap plans always succeed: because they are mad and because the bad guys always forget the true power of the protagonist factor.

Has anyone managed to make the monk less oriental?

Thanks! Kudos to Turanil, too. ;)

Has anyone managed to make the monk less oriental?

It depends. Recycling existing and playtested mechanics while slapping a different flavor on it just requires imagination; rebuilding from scratch requires a lot of tinkering with the rules. What about these two (fluff specifics are an example, of course): Dreadwood Claws When the kingdoms...

    "Swift" Spells Question

The greatest potential for abuse probably lies in those spells with a built-in swift action casting time and in immediate actions (if, following the same reasoning, it becomes allowed to cash in your next standard action for a second immediate action). The safest choice is to enforce the once...

    "Swift" Spells Question

Tecnically, you can't: swift actions have no clause like "you can use your standard action for a second move action". However, it is a bit silly that you can perform a swift and a standard action but not two swift actions.

Action Points...how does Eberron differ from Unearthed Arcana

Action points are a bit more powerful in UA than in Eberron; you can use them to get a feat you don't have for a round or to improve a feat you have already and additional uses of limited abilities cost only 1 AP, for example. If you use the UA rules, one or two Eberron feats become redundant...

    RANT - Obsession with Clerics

In the Eberron campaing I'm currently DMing I have only two players, who alternate between two parties: a bard and a ranger in one and a rogue and a wizard in the other; they are short not only on healing but also on numbers, yet we don't have any problem. They rely more on wands and potions of...

The Celestial Empire (Romance of the Three Kingdoms-ish, Updated 12/09/05)

It happens to me too from time to time, on random threads; I've got the impression that it happens only during peak hours, when the server is very busy. Usually I get it back right by refreshing the page after a minute or so. And remember the slew of updates. You promised, mmh? :]

Who is from or based in Continental Europe?

We italianize most old, common names; I can attest that it was quite a surprise when I discovered that the well known Cartesio was really named Descartes. We don't twist modern names, however, probably because television allows us to learn the right spelling firsthand; there is only one odd...
