    D&D 5E (2014) Weak Saving Throws

So these white-roomed PCs have had 20 levels to consider how to address their weak saves and chose to do nothing about it? Then complain that they can't make a save? Brilliant. Quite the opposite. They intended the situation because its a feature not a bug. You not liking something does not...

D&D 5E (2014) I'm *GASP* Actually Going to Be Playing 5e in a Few Weeks -- What are the Character Creation Pitfalls to Avoid?

Funny enough, the first berzerker I saw in play was that player's first 5e character, and new to the game. He did fine. True story.

D&D 5E (2014) I'm *GASP* Actually Going to Be Playing 5e in a Few Weeks -- What are the Character Creation Pitfalls to Avoid?

It's not. Although there may be something to be found in the fact that one of us is experiencing "problems" while the other isn't. And what that may, or may not, say about how we are using 5e in the hopes of making a fun and enjoyable game for everyone at the table... I believe you are adding...

D&D 5E (2014) I'm *GASP* Actually Going to Be Playing 5e in a Few Weeks -- What are the Character Creation Pitfalls to Avoid?

Okay. As long as we all realize that you just listed a string of things that have nothing to do with the design of the class (and its interactions with exhaustion on a rules-level), and everything to do with your table's playstyle and choices... Half-move: Being isolated away from enemies isn't...

Those of you who believe exhaustion is too severe a limit on frenzy: What are you opinions of how the berzerker plays once the cleric has access to greater restoration?

I'm curious how you come to these numbers. Because combat rolls during the first three instances of using frenzy* are not affected by your exhaustion levels. So why are you downgrading their expected value? (*net)

Ninja'ed! This has been our experience at my table as well. And once again, IMO, the difference between actually playing it and just theorizing about it.

D&D 5E (2014) I'm *GASP* Actually Going to Be Playing 5e in a Few Weeks -- What are the Character Creation Pitfalls to Avoid?

"That much more," huh? Well, I'll have to disagree. I've seen two berzerkers in play. Both were quite frightening Cuisinarts when berzerk. I'll take practical, play experience over white-room theory-crafting any day. In order for that to matter, significantly enough to force someone's choice...

    D&D 5E (2014) Weak Saving Throws

Bounded accuracy changes the treadmill you are used to into a new thing that makes your statement generally less severe than you imply. I.e., "progressively worse" means something different now than it did in 3.x/4e.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Warlock broken?

So it's more than just, "Do I get the sidebar benefits from the MM if I take chain pact?" I confess that is the extent I was addressing in this exchange. If I missed more complaints about the class, that's on me. My bad. Would if be much to ask for the Cliffs Notes?

D&D 5E (2014) Pesky odd stat and decision paralysis.

Not only that. But if one were to place that much weight on needing good Wisdom saves, I find it odd to think to wait over half the character's levels before finally getting it. If one survived that long without it, what makes them think they'll need it then? It's an odd decision in my eyes.

D&D 5E (2014) Pesky odd stat and decision paralysis.

I cannot think of a single available choice or option that would not be fun and/or useful*. Not a one. Barring any table-specific neutering houserules or playstyle we do not know about, of course. (*though, as I've confessed in the other thread, I'm prone to consider feats first...)

D&D 5E (2014) I hate choosing between ASIs and Feats

I, for one, have not gone there. I don't think your concerns have anything to do with keeping up with the Jonses. I *do* think you may be putting a bit too much weight on just how much that +1 stat bonus is actually benefiting you in actual play. And what the system expectations are for...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Warlock broken?

Thanks for responding, SailorNash. Do you generally go to fresh tables assuming houserules? Do you generally not ask a new DM if they have an opinion on something you are specifically finding interest in playing? As far as warlocks and familiars are concerned, I would think the safe bet is to...

D&D 5E (2014) I'm *GASP* Actually Going to Be Playing 5e in a Few Weeks -- What are the Character Creation Pitfalls to Avoid?

And that's totally fine. At least you get that you are expressing a personal taste preference and not some kind of objective fact, like some. I've just not seen a level or two of exhaustion ruin a game. Heck, people at our table sometimes get a level of exhaustion for other reasons too (force...

D&D 5E (2014) I'm *GASP* Actually Going to Be Playing 5e in a Few Weeks -- What are the Character Creation Pitfalls to Avoid?

Unless, of course, you want to play a berserker who occasionally goes into a rage so intense he turns into a killing machine. Having had two at our table at different times, I can say this has not been my takeaway WRT them. But YMMV, one must suppose. Define "par". I think, the next time we...

    D&D 5E (2014) Weak Saving Throws

Really? Is that what the rules say happens when you fail a madness check? Are you sure? We've been using the madness rules for months in our current OotA campaign, actually. Working as intended, AFAICT. I've had zero problems with it. I've failed two madness saves so far. Heck, my friend's...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Warlock broken?

I can't really agree with this here. Is find familiar the only default player accessible means of gaining a familiar via what is given them in the PHB? Perhaps. But that does not mean it is the only way in play. Because "in play" means infinite possibilities. All games, in my vast years of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Weak Saving Throws

Sure, which is why I started off by clarifying that your "if" is not in fact an "if " at all. The devs have made that clear. Unless your point was that, in an alternate reality, where D&D was written with different underlying values and expectations, there might could be a problem...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Warlock broken?

Please expound on this. What has lead you to believe the warlocks is badly written because of familiars? What is unclear to you? Because things seem clear enough to me. With both the find familiar spell, and the chain pact class feature.
