What class will be your first?

More than likely I'll be DMing first, but if/when I get the chance to play it's a toss-up between a dwarf warlord and a tiefling paladin/warlock I've been jonesin' for. I put warlord just because I like my concept a little better.

[Trailer] The X-Files: I Want to Believe

What exactly prompted them to bring back the X-Files? Chris Carter running out of money?

May '08 What are you reading?

I'm not terribly familiar with Simmons or his politics. I'll have to see how the first book turns out before I buy into the second (the Earth humans just met Odysseus and learned the truth about the faxnodes and how that ties into the 100-year life span and "going to heaven" with the humans.)...

    pawsplay's dealbreaker list

I think we're more likely dealing with your second conclusion rather than the first. I think the OGL has been successful, but it would be a helluva lot more successful if it were based on the most recent iteration of DnD.

May '08 What are you reading?

I'm really enjoying Ilium by Dan Simmons. I tend not to like heavy sci fi very much, but his book is an excellent mix of all the things I love. His pacing is as close to perfect as I can imagine. He also uses the present tense narrative (which I tend to dislike) very well. I'll definitely be...

This post says a lot more about your dislikes than the original, paws. Thanks for sharing.

    Battlestar Galactica-Final Season (4) 5/9/08--Faith

Did anyone else catch the Star Trek reference just before Nana Visitor came on? As Baltar's proselytizng in the background, he mentions something about "the undiscovered country." :) Anywho, great episode. After a few slow ones, things seem to be picking up.

Pathfinder 1E Monte Cook Joins the Pathfinder RPG Team

And here I thought Monte had retired from gaming. Well, this is very cool! Can't wait to check out the Beta book when it arrives.

    D&D 4E 4e: Death of the Bildungsroman

Hmmm. An interesting topic, for sure. I don't think that this style of play is going to destroy bildungsroman in the way you describe. As I understand it, Bildungsroman is not necessarily about moving from an immature to a mature state, but the process of maturity and the journey towards that...

Keep on the Shadowfell character sheet scans

For the worm at least, I imagine that switching positions results from the worm twisting itself into various positions trying to attack the rogue, until it finds itself in a whole other square. For the cube... maybe the rogue dives through it. :D

    Heroes Season 3 promo

What a weak statement. "Because in every Hero, there could be a villain." What is this "could be" nonsense? Tell me, which of these is better: At every tea party, there could be cake. or At every tea party, there is cake. I want something diffinitive and mysterious. There's a villain in...

    Epic Destinies and Earth Giants

Seems to me that an ability like "earth shock" would be appropriate for something called an earth titan. The ability from the stat card seems pretty appropriate for a 16th level elite brute to me. I can't imagine why they cut it. If I find incomplete statblocks in my monster manual, and am...

    Epic Destinies and Earth Giants

Wait a second... That's great if it's on the mini statblock. But I don't plan on buying minis, so how exactly does that help me? Edit: I'm of course assuming that the stat blocks in the previews are identical to the ones appearing in the MM. Maybe that isn't the case, but if it's not what's...

    Epic Destinies and Earth Giants

Hey, ENWorld's back! Yay! So there's a mention of an earth shock ability in the earth titan's tactics text. But it's not in the stat block. Sigh...

    Keep on the Shadowfell: Impressions

Thanks for the review. I'm debating the purchase, honestly. On one hand, I'd like to use it to jumpstart a 4e campaign of my own design. On the other, I don't intend to run the follow-up adventures, and I'm confident I could put a reasonable introductory adventure together. But I'm curious...

D&D 4E Dice and other game supplies for 4e

I'm going to shoot for at least three of d4, d6, d8, d10, and d12. I'd like to have 10-20 d20s on hand for minions and area attacks. I've never been an avid dice collector, so my numbers are limited. But I'll probably buy some more if I get a game going.

    D&D 5E (2014) Ruminations on 5E (serious)

You make it sound as if creating an excellent game with the best possible mechanics and making money are mutually exclusive, or at least unequal. They are not.

Warlord At-Will Powers level 1 via June Preview

Sigh... probably. It's late and my rather curt posts are probably not the best way to express my feelings on the matter. Sorry about that. But I think you're right; where else can we really take this? It's just a difference of opinion. I guess I was trying to say that I haven't heard others...

    pawsplay's dealbreaker list

Some of us have chosen to be positive about the game we enjoy. That is a rationale in and of itself. As I said, it is a matter of opinion and whichever chosen is that person's prerogative. You may interpret a positive attitude however you wish.

Warlord At-Will Powers level 1 via June Preview

I don't consider it a problem, and never said that it was. I just think it's an odd thing to worry/complain about. Of course, I wasn't around when 3e was coming out...
