Wizards: Musings on the new DDi disaster

Fair point - feel free to reread my comments as "ranting at, and about, a company not present on that board". And as I said I do not condone, or comdemn, his behaviour, or those of anyone on this board as that is not my place - I just pointed out that he showed no case of hypocrisy. He merely...

Wizards: Musings on the new DDi disaster

Actually there was no hypocrisy - he specifically stated that being willing to come on to a message board and post a rant aimed at people not on that board and full of hyperbole is acceptable, aand so is coming on to the board to rant at or ridicule those who partook in the aforementioned...

    Online CB yea or nay?

Voted Yes. I will be glad when export and Houseruling are viable - but once I removed house rules I got all my characters imported fine and it is running smoothly and well. I do think it would be more a pain to create a high-level character in this system (just do to sync delays and the layout...

    D&D 4E Switching to 4e?

Those last four words sum it up for me. AP and Dailies, and the entire feel of 4E, just gives life to that sentence. Everytime my group decides to "Bring The Thunder" by burning our big guns I find myself imagnining some version of a classic fantasy picture: The rogue crouches low, his cloak...

    Essentials preview: The purple worm

I assume the effect in question would be "swallowed" which ends on (escape DC 21).

Human lvl 1 bonus at-will related to augmentable power classes

PHB3 Appendix - Augmentable - At-Will Attack Powers - P216. The last paragraph here says that any racial trait that lets you pick an At-Will Attack power can choose Augmentable ones but they lose the Augmentable keyword and any augmentations.

    DDI/CB: An actually modest proposal

It works fine for boxed-sets but any book would then need to come sealed to stop the code being knicked by someone just fliiping through the book at the store - this then raises production costs per book (as you add the packing material and machine costs to shrink wrap or box every book) thus...

    Stacking AC bonuses?

Both Defensive Mobility and Trickster's Blade add an unnamed bonus to your AC, so they should stack fine.

Academic curiousity Re Melee training and essentials

Well I guess we are just going to disagree. Strength isn't the ultimate attack stat - it is the basic melee attack stat. If you don't learn another way to do so, the basic "swing and hope" technique is the standard answer to "How do I use this then?". If you hand someone who doesn't normally...

Academic curiousity Re Melee training and essentials

Mengu Well if the spell to cast a magic bolt takes a few seconds to cast vs pulling a bow which can be "snapped" (and snapped well if you practice hunting shots a lot) then I see no problem with the idea the Ranger can respond to "Shoot Now!" better than the mage - tho if the mage has a very...

Academic curiousity Re Melee training and essentials

I am a fencer - I melee via Dex (like a rogue) - I am pretty good at it (made the Uni team etc). If someone shouted at me to "Hit him right now!" I would not do a good job of it. I make my attacks by fienting, drawing the opponent, swinging my blade about to confuse etc. I don't just take a...

    Essentials' "Give Backs"

From what I have heard of CharOp boards they look at DPR only. On DPR the Slayer is great - he is built to have a solid consistant damage that knocks a few rounds off combats on average. Where the Slayer falls down is the "We need that thing dead NOW!!!!!" situation, where the use of a strong...

    Essentials' "Give Backs"

It depends, if it is a move that requires: Appropriate set-up, strong effort and a bit of luck - then it is the sort of thing that might well work once/day on average. It might well be that it would otherwise descend into a different effect cos not all the stars aligned right. For example, a...

    Ecology of The Scarecrow

I think it is just WotC giving us a little nod to Halloween with a "scary pumpkin-headed meanie" article. Lets be honest, ever since the legend of "The Headless Horseman" and Lack-O-Laterns scarecrows hae been considered a personification of 'creepy guy you don't want to meet on a moonless night'.

D&D 4E Is Essentials Compatible with Old School 4ed?

I finely worked out what this question felt like to me. I feel the question in this thread title is like asking the following: "Is Physics compatible with Higher Education?" Of course it is - it is an example of such. Will it restrict other choices? Yes - some of your powers/options are...

Attacking vehicles - awesome or silly?

But if you shoot Icy Rays at the hull and, for all intents and purposes, stick a mini-iceburg to the side of the ship I would expect this to damage the hydrodynamics of the craft enough to slow it down (it is dragging extra weight that isn't designed to cut through water very well and may even...

Switching from a 2H weapon to two weapons

You can also go with a Paired Weapon that is Versatile - but this only works if you can wield a one-handed weapon in your offhand like a 2WF Ranger. Then you can switch from 1 weapon to 2, or vice versa, for a minor action - or a free action if you take Quick Draw.

Charging and Line of Sight (?)

Yes you get further away in one dimesion but 4ed only defines distance by the longest dimension. So you start the charge at distance: 2 Vertical 4 Horizontal = Distance 4 and if you move into the squares up from the starting point you are at distance 3 Vertical 3 Horizontal = Distance 3...

    DDI September/October Update info

I found it amusing that this suffered from the "alphabetical numbers" problem - It showed things in alphabetical order not level or topic order. Hence Level 10 facts show up before Level 2 powers, as 1 is alphabetically before 2 and 10 starts with a 1. Guess they need to look at sorting by value...
