D&D General It's Time To Vote For Your Favourite D&D Monster!

There is definitely something about owlbears. I think the urge to make something that seems silly terrifying is a big draw for DM's. Also the recent miniatures are awesome.

RPG Crowdfunding News – Fiasco, Shadow Profiteer, Resist & Remember, and more

I'm jealous. I have fond memories of running D&D 4E release for kids at my LFGS back when I was in graduate school. The owner had opened shop to make the hobby friendlier to younger kids and girls especially. He was a great guy and it was a great shop.

D&D 5E (2014) Here Are The Races In The New Eberron Book

I have every Eberron book, there are a ton. Plus all the feats to pump up their potency. You could spend a long time with Shifters in a rich crunchy way (and probably still be jealous of the wizard...) Shifters were a really odd one since they hone in on other class qualities without making...

Pathfinder 2E Here's the Cover Art for Pathfinder 2E's April Bestiary 2

I need to know what is happening here! Despite being totally generic (dragon, pretty lady, fanciness) that posing and her facial expression DEMANDS attention. What is going on? Who are these guys??? Hand moving towards pre-order... must resist...

D&D General It's Time To Vote For Your Favourite D&D Monster!

What an incredibly difficult choice! I went for: Kobolds - Perfect early level antagonists with some staying power at higher levels due to mischief and coordination. Also: kobolds. Win. Gelatinous Cube - A one trick pony, but WHAT A trick. Also low enough level to see a lot of play. Bonus...

D&D 5E (2014) Here Are The Races In The New Eberron Book

The number of shifter alts feels very 3.5E... hope it is condensed to a list of options for 5E. Anyone has Wayfinders and can weigh in?

Pathfinder 2E Here's the Cover Art for Pathfinder 2E's April Bestiary 2

A very curious piece. So much detail and interesting ideas, but... its missing something. There's no story here. Nothing that makes me feel a need to crack open the book. Maybe I've just seen one too many covers like this.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 6th edition - What do you want to see?

What I find interesting about this pet conversation catching fire is that the ranger, and its pet, has been catching flak since release. I mean, it isn't a new irritation right? I kind of wish they'd decided to errata the whole thing after the Unearthed Arcana alternates.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 6th edition - What do you want to see?

Okay, maybe 6E needs better pet classes and skill challenges.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 6th edition - What do you want to see?

Of course... "The stirge can detach itself by spending 5 feet of its movement. It does so after it drains 10 hit points of blood from the target or the target dies." Going to need a pack of stirges.

Worlds of Design: Who Needs Spellcasters Anyway?

I feel there may be a little divide here between official-play and home games which have a much higher variance. Given the popularity of optimization forums I don't have a hard time believing that this is true: min-max casters can be pushed pretty hard in non-linear ways.

D&D 5E (2014) Eberron: Rising from the Last War Coming For D&D In November

You make some great points. Those are terrific for Eberron. I'd forgotten how much I like those because I still use them in 5E!

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 6th edition - What do you want to see?

Pretty much the same reason the entire "beast" type of 5E is dramatically weaker than other types at the same CRs. Thanks druids =) Edit - Whoops - Bring back skill challenges in a big way! Front and center!

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 6th edition - What do you want to see?

My vote is for 5.5E. A cleanup and re-tightening of the rules and books. A big push for redesigning core monsters to have a greater variety of (interesting, not just gotcha) gimmicks. I rely on 3rd parties for a lot of that right now since the MM really only has a few tricks. One thing 4E...

Worlds of Design: Who Needs Spellcasters Anyway?

This is a great example of rebalancing in classes. Despite having a lot of 5E's guts, you get a tremendously different feel from AIME than core D&D. A good DM can (and should) do this for their game too. Wizard full of fireballs? Sure, knock the crowd of guards out. But your nemesis knows...

Worlds of Design: Who Needs Spellcasters Anyway?

I really confused by this article. Please help me internet (no, I'm not being snide). What exactly is the thesis of this article? Spellcasters are powerful (stated as a given), and so why are some players handed disproportionately more power? Is that it? In my experience as a DM of...

D&D 5E (2014) Eberron: Rising from the Last War Coming For D&D In November

Wow, I see a lot of people who would be very interested in a new Dark Sun product that stayted true to the tone and feeling of what they remember! I remember when Eberron was coming out for 4E and thinking "why do they need to jam all these 4E bits in that will weaken the flavor?" And then...

D&D 5E (2014) Eberron: Rising from the Last War Coming For D&D In November

That wasn't my experience. I felt that the way Keith built up things like dragonmarks through chaining feats felt very natural. I just didn't feel the mechanics and the "play" synced as well in 4E. I know for many people Eberron was a chance for a little more "gonzo" style and power (turn it...
