    What is wrong with 4E?

I think so, considering that what you call a Mashup is- 1- Now a 4E Base Class 2- Either house ruled or unreleased at the moment (gotta sell PHB 2 somehow) "It isn't multiclassing" = Sacred Cow about what we call a combination of different powers. Do those catholic monks still have 18 STR...

Ad Hominem is not your friend. However- Still needs a response.

    What is wrong with 4E?

You were posting an example without a thesis. I responded to the actual thesis. In no way did you contradict the "Neither Dabbler nor Mashup" in the block-o-text. Why would I make him a BattleSorc or WarMage to gain abilities that I don't need? Does that make him a better person within the...

    What is wrong with 4E?

Is this a discussion or a troll? Because drive-by-"statements-of-fact" w/o contributing to the discussion is exactly that.

    4E is for casuals, D&D is d0med

It was my response, sooo 1- Elves are pretty and not members of a Chaotic Evil race. 2- I agree that Half Elves should be scrapped anyway and have for years.

    What is wrong with 4E?

Way to snipe-quote there. 8th Level Dwarf Fighter with Arcane Initiate (representing a better genre convention than "looking over his shoulder) selecting Thunderwave and Acolyte Power swapping a lvl 2 for Feather Fall. He is a member of a military Dwarf group called "Moradin's Thunder". He...

    What is wrong with 4E?

SCOOP SCOOP SCOOP http://mearls.livejournal.com/150306.html and remember that 3.0 was 2000-2003 while 3.5 was 2003-2008, so 3 to 5 years AND difference in the market at the times.

    What is wrong with 4E?

Do you have something that contradicts WotC? Or is this truthiness? 3E was having to get out of the deep grave of TSR.

    4E is for casuals, D&D is d0med

Thats a pretty broad-brush assessment that fits more into your personal bias than as part of an objective observation. First, the Implied Setting you note is not a problem, considering that gods and planes are a bigger piece of the landscape for homebrews- Tieflings have Angst because they are...

Is 4E still D&D to you?

Mere shadows thrown from the image of D&D.

    Yeenoghu Entry = AWESOME.

It is awesome. It is the bar that I can only hope that more Demon Lords aspire to. Orcus was limited by space constraints of the MM and I imagine Demogorgon will be as well (as he is the confirmed MM2 Coverdemon). Also fills in a few blanks of the Implied Setting (which is cool for story geeks).

    4E is for casuals, D&D is d0med

Murf. 4E is a modular system that was built to incorporate new resources for players and DMs in its subscription model. Its far more Linux-like to most users than 3E is. 3E is Unix, 4E is Linux. Calling it "casual" is trying to prove how much of a Hardcore "gourmand" you are. How far do...

On the subject of powers, builds and "sub classes"

WotC has to sell PHB2, 3, and 4 somehow. Zan & Jayna: Wonder Twin Powers, de-activate! Zan: Wow Sis, we beat the Legion of Doom once again! Its a good thing our powers of transforming into Water and Animals was what was necessary to save the day! Jayna: That's right! It's a good thing...

On the subject of powers, builds and "sub classes"

So you agree that waiting around during the ascribed "Skill Monkey Moment" isn't a good thing, then? The Decker problem is what we're talking about. You're taking the issue far beyond what was said.

    4E is for casuals, D&D is d0med

First, man did Monsters-as-PCs in 3E suck. House rules in 3E is house rules in 4E. Yet wasn't the main complaint that the subscription model is holding back content that players want? So really, the problem is that you can't get all you want right now, right? So therefore 4E is the Mall with...

    What is wrong with 4E?

But for those who have a problem with that, a feat analogous to Practiced Spellcaster or Empower Spell would be an easy fix, getting the shapeshifter better abilities in at least one form. In this edition, feats aren't used as an alternate cost to make a character exceptional, they're...

On the subject of powers, builds and "sub classes"

According to my observations of page 119 of the PHB open in my lap, Rogues do a lot more debuffing and skirmishing attacks than front-line fighters, and according to my observations of page 116 they aren't able to do the toe-to-toe thing as much as Fighters or other shiny knights. And further...

    4E is for casuals, D&D is d0med

The catalyst for the early-90s complexity-in-gaming era is Street Fighter II. It's a well-documented if not globally accepted moment in gaming history. And having more or less rules don't matter if the rule systems are kludgy add-ons that don't contribute to a tenable learning curve.

    What is wrong with 4E?

Let me play anecdote time June 7th release day game: 5 players have been playing the game forever, Mastered the System and are very Supercool Hardcore. 25 "new" players actually enjoy D&D again, are starting up five new campaigns. Which group is a better determinant of a well-designed game?

    What is wrong with 4E?

Five Levels of Suck, waiting for your Animal Form to be something better than a mouse? Come on now. But you mean like Spell Casting, right? Except that the 3.5 Optimization Hole demanded that all Multiclassing must be Spells + New Abilities instead of actually treating the multi-class as an...
