Rate of Advancement and how often people play

My current camapign has been going since before the monstermanual was avialble for 3e prety much weekly (Probably 48 sessions a year) and the highest level guy in the party is 12th level. I make folks work for those xp, there are no signs that say "this way to the challenging adventure you'll...

AU Warmain unbalanced in non-AU campaign?

I just classified the AU spells and such as Mystic so in my campaign there are Divine spells, Arcane spells and Mystic spells. All the AU casters happen to use the Mystic spells, for now the feats/templates from AU dealing with magic are only going to be open to AU classed charaters but i may...

Vault of the Drow - your experiences?

PC'd in it in one camapign I and a coupla other fellows were only able to ultimately survive it by being real creeps and screwing over the rest of the party.

    Fluff 'n' Crunch.

I hate these terms, without the "fluff" the "crunch" wouldn't mean a thing.

Tomb of Horrors - your experiences?

Made it through in one campaign but the party was huge and of high level (there were 8 or so PCs and every one of us had 3 or more henchmen) lots and lots of precsious followers, henchmen and slow witted fellow PCs were used as "early warning trap detection systems" by the ruthless and quick witted.

    The dangers of DnD

This thing comes up all the time. I think the continual rementioning of it is the greatest danger I'll ever face.

I want to hear your Time Travel adventure stories

I had a camapign where folks were in three different widely seperated time periods in thier campaign world. they were so far apart from each other chnages heroes made in one age weren't too likely to surface in a later age and travel between the ages (which wwas darned rare but happened a couple...

The gaming/fiction disparity, or "Why are dark elves cliche?"

Dark Elves aren't an invention of D&D but Drow as they exsist in D&D and any Dark elves that look like them and dress like then and live where they do are most certainly derivative and are then a cliche. oh look black skinned elves that means with a reasonable degree of reliability one can say ...

How long do you like your D&D battles to last?

I'd like the amount of time to vary from 10 minutes to an hour but the number of rounds really doesn't have a lot to do with how long it takes to fight every time. A hour long fight that only covered 4 rounds would be annoying while one of 20 rounds or so would be fine. a 10 minute combat of but...

Same Species, Different System: How do different games treat typical fantasy races?

There are races known as "goblins" on Glorantha that are not trollkin at all, they are more like degenrate races of elves tied to small plants and fungi. Red Elves (slorflings) are a race of "goblins" related to ferns and mosses as the elves are related to trees.

Same Species, Different System: How do different games treat typical fantasy races?

Pretty much. sometimes they are more technologically apt then other folks but most dwarves PCs could be moved from game sytem to game system without a horrible degree of change to thier basic nature regardless of differences in stats. In Runequest 2nd edtion they were all from one common culture...

    The steady rise in CR/EL

It all depends on the campaign. low level and high level monsters together aren't all that unusual in my campaign. The really tough baddies usually aren't making a big deal unless they feel they are endangered by other folks, like a band of known do-gooders and feel the need to react. There...

Health, hardiness -- translating RL to DnD

    2. (actually asked the wife about this and she didn't hit me or get mad) i was running and probably slightly hunkered down becasue of this, she was running, I grabbed her by her belt and the back of her pants which knocked her off balance and kind of spun her up onto my shoulder while i kept...

Health, hardiness -- translating RL to DnD

Well what about running and catching somone who ways 195 pounds with one hand and lifting them up onto your shoulder (as part of goofy horseplay)?

Health, hardiness -- translating RL to DnD

I feel like hercules after reading this thread, I've always felt the D&D strengfht scores were out of line. A healthy adult male should be able to lift a 100lbs over his head from the ground, certainly not all day long without risk strain from the effort but it shoudl hardly be remarkable from...

So, how do people come up with character names, anyway?

I either make em up, study a region during a specific historical period or more easily- use a phone book, use one of those "study bibles" with a big appendix full of names, use baby naming books, use a catalog of plants and herbs. anyhting that has lots of names with some explination is...

    BoVD: Your opinions

i like the book of Vile Darkness. It is very rules heavy but it does cetainly provide lots of unwholesome badness for the game. Most of the art communicates the general unwholesomeness rather well, most of it is fairly goor with a few weak spots- My wife after seeing the picture of Orcus: "Oh...
