Palace of the Silver Princess - your experiences?

I enjoyed using it back in the old days there is a degree of railroading to get one involved amd while a lot of the same convential themes are in place it has a more specific scenario then B1 or B2 did. I placed B3 down the road from B2 at one time in my camapign and it worked fine as an...

Why should I care about the FLGS?

If your local FLGS isn't friendly I say let them go to to heck in a handbasket but if they are friendly buy something there. My local FLGS is friendly, it's prices are list but they carry a wide range of stuff, including stuff from very small publishers (folks that don't turn up online). The...

    Elves vs. Vulcans

Elves and Vulcans are similar beacuse they both have pointy ears and are into mystic mumbo-jumbo other then that they are entierly different one is group is ruled by whimsy and emotion the other by logic and the desire to not give in to emotion. Vulcans and the Verric of Arcana Unearthed...

    How evil is your evil?

Players should play thier alignment how they wish. One of my players has decided his Wizard is going to be a big bad evil creep and try to despoil others and spread evil throughout the land. The PCs long term goals are enough to make folks at the table feel uncomfortable on occassion. He...

Wizards and Dungeon Maps: Gridline madness

Of course players can get past mapping issues by not mapping. They can put chalk marks on walls, sure locals might notice the chalk marks but no one ends up stuck having to fiddlt about with a parchment, pen and light in a location as horribly dangerous as the typical dungeon. I'd just like...

    Too, too many races

It all depends on the campaign really. If I wanted to run pseudo-historical campaign more then one race would likely stretch things too far but if I was running a planseccape or spelljammer like campaign there really isn't any reason for an upper limit at all. My biggest gripe about all the...

Have We Lost Our Way? Two masters on combat and alignment

I guess we really haven't strayed all that far in the points raised. To use the passages quoted and with all respect to thier original authors: Since it is not in the best interests of an adventure game, however, to delve too deeply into cut and thrust, parry and riposte . The location of a...

    Christians and DnD

As a nodenomiantional christian I get really offended when i see folks throw about Jesus references and use sexism, racism and other "subtle' methods to get a message across. in that classical chick D&D rant - Notethe DM is a woman: women who are not loyal christians are corrupt witches who want...

Is it cheating to start a PC above 1st level?

This came up in another thread but there is a better then 66% chance someone will not be able to have a character survive past 5th or 6th level. Players run a lot, maneuver for position and contribute to the general effort. Barring bad luck we've had 3 first level "seconds" survive several...

How much PC die in your campaign in average ?

I'm not to sure how often PCs in my camapign die on a per session basis but I do know out of 9 characters rolled up in the first session 7 are dead. The death rate for PCs in my campaign from initial roll up is over 66% with most of the deaths occouring for characters of 4th to 6th level.

    Are Good GM's good writers/storytellers?

Being a good storyteller does help one be a good DM. Storytelling shouldn't be confused with railroading however. Being able to turn a random encounter into something that is exciting and dynamic and maybe a more signifigant part of the camapign then it was initially intended to be certainly...

Is it cheating to start a PC above 1st level?

They aren't bumbling neophytes they are just as heroically capable as the more experienced characters. New characters have been former hirelings, ambitious followers, apprentices, folks seeking to prove themselves, relatives of known NPCs, buisness and social arangements. Currently in my...

Is it cheating to start a PC above 1st level?

The PCs in my camapign tend to avoid standing in clumps waiting to die. The NPCs tend to avoid standing in clumps waiting to die. but on occasion they do and sometimes the high level PCs actions can put the rest of the party in jeopardy: one fellowrecently let off a cloudkill spell at a...

Is it cheating to start a PC above 1st level?

So high to mid level charcaters are just supposed to materialize out of nowhere to replace a lost PC? What is the point of playing well if there is no chance to lose much in the process? Where are all the less experienced folks when the champions are going toe to toe with giants mounted on...
