    D&D 3.x AD&D 2nd vs 3.5

2e was better as far as spellcasters are concerned. Casters are obviously more powerful than non casters by about 6th level, but there were enough limitations to keep them in check. 3e removed those limitations. 3e was better for non-casters. No more was the fighter a one-trick pony, but...

History, alt.history, and -isms in my Flashing Blades campaign

I love historic roleplaying, in fact I'm currently working on 2 1/2 (I've always had trouble concentrating on one campaign until play actually starts,) One is called simply Mythic Europe and takes place in England in 996. It revolves around the intrigues of the Royal house (and there were...

Mini-Tiers and Generic Classes in the E6 game.

More powerful creatures would have to be far more rare. A dragon, for instance, is a truly terrifying creature. No mortal man could hope to take down an ancient dragon without some serious help and being well prepared. It would require a large group of powerful adventurers, highly specialized...

    Basic classes and various derivations

That's why I'm using the generic classes (warrior, expert, spellcaster) in my next campaign.

    Poll: Favored class & why?

Warriors because hitting things is fun.

    Best use of Reach Weapons

Reach weapons work best in conjunction with spring attack. You can move, make a single attack and move again. When your opponent moves in to attack you you get an aoo. This means you get twice as many attacks as your opponent. Of course, this is easily countered by anyone with tumbling...

Is 5th Edition a Real Thing?

Of course they're planning 5e, I guarentee WotC started working on 5e before 4e even hit the stores. WotC treats gaming even more as a business than TSR did, and you can't really blame them.

Mini-Tiers and Generic Classes in the E6 game.

I was looking at the Unearthed Arcana generic classes and noticed something, they are absolutely perfect for E6 play. I’ve been trying to find a good multi-classing system for the system and had even dabbled in gestalt feats, but there’s no need when using generic classes. The reasons are two...

    Spears as double weapons

Not even a little overpowered. I let all characters with martial weapon proficiencies use a spear as a double weapon, it still doesn't measure up to the long sword. I've always hated the argument that having a thrown range is as good as an extra point of crit range, who in the world would...

Fixing mundane classes - a disciplined approach?

It can't be done, the way to do it is to weaken spellcasters. In earlier editions wizards had to spend 10 minutes per spell level memorizing spells, so one 9th level spell took an hour and a half to get back. This made casters more conservative with their spellcasting. There also used to be...

    Poll: Character Development

Your examples make no sense, 4e most certainly doesn't offer more options than 3e.

    Duelist Base Class

Wait, your duelist uses a medium attack bonus? That's crazy! A duelist certainly has more weapon training than a ranger and at least as much as a fighter or paladin. All they do is duel, it's in the name. This class with only a medium attack bonus needs to be renamed and should have 6 skill...

    How big is big?

It sounds like your DM is already more generous than I would be. A) Why in the world would a human town allow an armed ogre to just walk around town? B) How exactly would said ogre fit in the bar in the first place? You should have to crawl in on your hands and knees and sit without a chair...

    Duelist Base Class

I really like the feel of this class and the canny defense and challenge benefits are pretty cool, but I'm not a fan of the -4 to parry. Unless the duelist is fighting an inferior opponent he'll usually fail to parry, I would never use it.

D&D 3.x Vote for your favorite core Class!!! (3.5)

I like how much love the fighter gets despite the large "fighters suck" crowd. Some of us just like breaking out the great sword and whooping some butt.

looking for magic less bard class variant

Replace every caster level with a bonus feat from a class-appropriate list. I do this with rangers in my campaign (I hate spellcasting rangers!).
