Player Control, OR "How the game has changed over the years, and why I don't like it"

We're almost to the point that we don't need DMs. Just buy the module and go.

    D20 to 3d6

If you modify DCs you completely negate the point of the 3d6 conversion. The extraordinary results are supposed to be more rare. The maximum roll is decreased by only 2 points, so I don't see any reason to adjust anything except critical hits (which is covered in the UA).

Player Control, OR "How the game has changed over the years, and why I don't like it"

Well you could always put it out that either you get to hand off the DM hat once in awhile so you don't have to deal with it or you'll be running a different game. Unless of course you feel 4e's positives outweigh its negatives.

Oops, I might of uh, made a small mistake.

It would be worse than actually draining the ocean it would also siphon off the atmosphere, destroying all life. The only thing worse would be if a sphere of annihilation actually existed.

    How strict with Hide checks?

I would allow it then, because he's not looking that way. As for your 2nd question, because all situations are not made equal. The hide in plain sight ability works whether someone's looking at you or not.

    How strict with Hide checks?

If it doesn't need it, why do it? Snarky much? Oh, I will.

    How strict with Hide checks?

Without the aid of magic. Please, stop trying to twist statements into supporting your arguments.

    How strict with Hide checks?

Really? Where exactly did I say I wouldn't allow supernatural abilities? Supernatural abilities are magic, thus they don't follow the same limitations. The character in the OP lacked magical assistance.

Best Alternate System for Dark Heresy Setting

If you can get your hands on a copy of Alternity, it would work great.

    How strict with Hide checks?

    A) Who cares? I'm not a biologist, my players aren't biologists, and if they were I'd tell them I don't care. B) Hiding in plain sight is a SUPERNATURAL ABILITY. The OP made no mention of the player possessing this SUPERNATURAL ABILITY, thus he can't hide in plain sight. And I don't allow...

    How strict with Hide checks?

Monstrous spiders breathe the same way real spiders do, dragons are special, and all supernatural monsters who can hide in plain sight do so through camouflage or magic. Standing alone in the middle of a 20x20 room and attempting to hide is never going to work without the aid of magic.

    Strangest place you've gamed...?

A missile magazine on a US naval vessel.

    Conan Second Edition

Overall Conan 2e is the best d20 game out there. The only major problem I have is with the scholar; while I like the overall concept of magic sorcerers simply know far too few spells. Thoth-Amon would need several hundred levels of scholar to account for all the spells the novels claim he knows.

    Less flexible ability rolls.

I like iron man rules, you are what your dice say you are.

    How strict with Hide checks?

Magic is perfectly logical in the worlds in which they exist, so I don't see any consistency problems there. If you're talking about magic assisting hiding, well if you're invisible obviously you don't need to hide.

How important are fantasy races to you?

Depends on the setting. My favorite settings are Mythic Earth and Cerilia. On Mythic Earth almost all characters will be human (though an occasional elf or dwarf is ok) while nonhumans are a major part of Cerilia.

    How strict with Hide checks?

I'm extremely strict, I don't even allow special abilities that allow characters to hide without cover. I don't check logic at the door.

Would It Break The Game If...: Weapon Damage

I like it, but I might be biased because I'm trying to put together a d20 variant where you only need d6s on the table.

    Alternative Rules for Extra Attacks

Another system I've used in the past is to allow the player to choose the number of attacks he makes, and all attacks are at the same bonus. These attacks suffer a -3 penalty to hit for every extra attack and the penalty can't exceed half the attack bonus. So a 16th level fighter could get a...

    Alternative Rules for Extra Attacks

Meh, I simply dropped iterative attacks and grant a +1 to the threat range of all attacks by a character for each extra attack lost. Since I only run E6 variants this means I don't have to worry about how much the system breaks at higher levels and I just give full BAB classes their crit bonus...
