    E6: The Game Inside D&D

A major fix for magic items would be to allow craft wondrous item to be more flexible. 3e's rules for magic item creation were really weird, you can't craft a magical ring at 6th level but you can craft a wondrous item that does the same exact thing but doesn't take up an item slot. Wonky...

    Alternity 2e Wish List

But how is it different? They both cost skill points and require a specific number of ranks to purchase.

    Alternity 2e Wish List

How is an optional rank benefit different than a feat with a skill rank requirement?

    From Stone to Steel

I agree completely, I think it's the best equipment book I've seen for any system.

    E6: The Game Inside D&D

I don't like the +2 limit on magic items, I'm thinking of adding a craftsman class similar to the Star Wars technician (I can't remember the class name at the moment) and allowing mastercraft bonuses to stack with magical bonuses.

    Alternity 2e Wish List

WotC has a history of dishonesty. "No, we aren't working on a new edition. Honest." I don't believe a thing that comes from the WotC office. It's anecdotal evidence to be sure, but I knew tons of people who played Alternity. It was the go to system for most DND players when they wanted to...

    Alternity 2e Wish List

For me, the feats would be anything you don't roll for and allow you to use skills in new ways. I don't like rank benefits actually, because different characters would use skills differently. The extra attacks granted by skill with blades is appropriate for a duelist using a rapier, but not a...

    Alternity 2e Wish List

If you use 4e mechanics it's not Alternity anymore. Of course I guess people don't seem to have a problem pretending it's D&D though. Mod Edit: Oh, come on! This thread isn't about D&D. Take the edition war elsewhere - preferably some other message board.

Which Published Settings Have You Played In?

Played in: Forgotten Realms (including Al-Qadim and Maztica) Greyhawk Dragonlance Birthright Dark Sun Star Wars (still uses D20 mechanic) Viking (2e Green Book) Run: Forgotten Realms Dragonlance Birthright Star Wars 3rd party: Harn (first campaign played) Scarred Lands Freeport...

Why double on Power Attack with Two-handed?

That's one change I hated about 3.5. I don't remember once hearing a TH fighter complain that he wasn't doing enough damage with power attack. It was balanced fine in 3.0, it was too strong in 3.5.

    Alternity 2e Wish List

    * Drop professions, they seemed to be kind of pointless. I honestly think they were put in just to make it closer to AD&D players' comfort zones. * Combine achievements and perks into a unified feat list. * Drop rank benefits. Many of them could be added to the feat list. * Limit...

Will the best knight (class) step forward?

I think a fighter is a great knight (especially if you're like me and bump their sp's up to 4/level). If you really want to spice it up, add the vow feats.

    Human-only campaign

Which is why I make racial modifiers optional. As a Cimmerian you can choose to receive a +2 str/-2 int OR you can choose to have no ability modifiers. I also cap all abilities at 18 to start. So while some races have a leg up in some abilities, the minimum and maximum abilities are equal...

What to buy a 9 year old D&D playing son?

A jar to hold his tears from when you disembowel his barbarian. Thems is good spell components.

    Creating your own world.

The very first thing I start with is laying out races and cultures, along with history. I then decide what deities these cultures need and how they interact with each other. Then they need to be placed on a map, which may lead to changes to your earlier steps as you begin to see how the...

Help with some home brew E6 feats

Those feats make spellcasters far more powerful than non-spellcasters, negating one of the reasons for E6.

Crazy Plot Changes for a Song of Ice and Fire Game

I'd start with option 5, and then follow it up with option 2 once the wars have built up some steam. That'd take the wind out of some sails. Or perhaps divorce the campaign from the events of the novels, an artifact must be recovered from beyond the wall.

Save or Die: Yea or Nay?

47-37 is a pretty large margin. If an election produces numbers like that it's considered a landslide.
