Does 4e have a sweet spot?

I've always leveled the monsters to match the PCs' level, to offset possible grind. It's worked really well, the players are able to hit the enemies often but the fights are still very much dynamic (going bloodied or unconscious frequently). I just spend the xp budget using equal-level enemies.

Let's Talk About WotC DM Supplements.

I remember back during the earlier part of the 3.5 era there was an outcry on the various forums about the lack of fluff in WotC's books. As a result, the later supplements (all, not just DM books) got more flavor text -- which of course didn't suit everyone, since we got less crunch. Kinda...

New Neverwinter Nights Game Probably On Its Way

From the Gamespot interview I understood that it's going to launch with heroic levels only. I wonder how slow the advancement's going to be. CRPGs these days tend to offer pretty rapid level ups or other rewards.

New Neverwinter Nights Game Probably On Its Way

Maybe they're going for a Diablo-style game where everyone just deals damage? Simple but fun (if not really D&D).

    3.5 better for world building?

Isn't this thread basically a list of who likes which edition? If you prefer 3.5, it's obviously better for worldbuilding. If you like 4e, that's better. Or am I missing something?

New Neverwinter Nights Game Probably On Its Way

Which is not a bad thing, IMO. Some of the best CRPGs have been like this -- Torment and Deus Ex.

    3.5 better for world building?

I think there's hardly any difference between the two when creating a world. Just minor details.

    Dark Sun art: Disappointed

The Creature Catalog art is really good! I didn't spot a single outright bad piece either.

Gen Con: Slavicsek says core books will continue to be published, other tidbits

All orcs, goblins, and kobolds in MM1 are heroic tier monsters, so they're not that outdated really. They're pretty much fine as they are.

    jann, janni, djinn, djinni, aaaigh!

I think they're 'djinns' and 'efreets' in 4e. Singulars 'djinn' and 'efreet'.

DMG2 - Replacing magic items with inherent bonuses?

Well, there's only one type of masterwork item available in the game, masterwork armor. Once you check the Inherent bonuses box, you can buy them in the regular 'armor' section.

DMG2 - Replacing magic items with inherent bonuses?

I've been using it and it works well, definitely a departure from the usual D&D game. Note that the rules still assume some magic items, but you can replace them with various boons, some given in DMG2. They suggest that you can come up with new ones by using magic items as a guideline, and...

Gods, planes, afterlife, and the common man

I'd say the direct presence of a deity would dissolve any doubt as to whether that being was a god or not or even real in the first place. I mean, they ARE deities -- awe-inspiring and magically divine and all that. 3e's deity mechanics support this too, I think.

    Rituals and Masterwork Armor

The Inherent bonuses variant assumes non-magical masterwork armor, and when you check that box in the Character Builder, you can get them there too. They're assumed to be magical items equal to the minimum enhancement bonus normally required, so a suit of drakescale (+2) is a level 6 item.

    D&D 4E 4e Combat in PbP

That's fairly fast in PbP. ;) Interrupts should be handled by the DM. Players should avoid taking a lot of them, and the DM can activate them as necessary (frex encounter immediates as soon as triggered).

    D&D 4E 4e Combat in PbP

Visible enemy defenses and hp. Update every day, use at-will powers for players who miss an update. Use equal-leveled monsters. My heroic tier combats take 4 to 5 days. Also, fewer combats per level. I do only about 2 to 4, though they tend to be more difficult.

    D&D 4E 4Ed Dragon Compendium & DDI

Can't you get all issues of Dragon for less ($10) than the book that has only a fraction of the same stuff? Even if you don't like PDFs and other electronic stuff...

Does anyone else think this is a bug in CB?

There really is no mention of inherent bonuses being 'enhancement' in the DMG2. However, if they weren't, it would wreck the math because you're still supposed to give magic items or boons even if not as many. So at, say, level 7 you could wield a +2 magic weapon and get an unnamed +2 bonus from...

Not happy with Wizard's lack of fluff.

I've thought there's a good amount of fluff available. Maybe not in the books aimed at players, but the DM stuff like Draconomicons and the Planar books and so on have lots of it.
