What is the big Cortex+ announcement going to be?

    That... would be awesome!

Good "Old West" on line photo galleries?

I need to beef up my picture folder for making tokens, etc... for running games online. So if you know of any good picture galleries of people and buildings, and even maps, it would be very helpful to me. I have Indians pretty well covered from what I have already found. 1860's to 1890...

    Mallus Rediscovers AD&D

Yeah, thats what I have been saying all along. You want to talk 2E D&D and earlier, great places to go. Just be very aware that even mentioning 3E or later, especially in the "WRONG!!" forum, is much like trying to bypass land mines. Potentially very explosive.

Any love for the Scarred Lands?

THATS who I have been trying to remember! The Sage of the Scarred Lands!

Yeah, DF. Like I posted earlier I quit going to K&K years ago despite liking a fair number of posters there. The Alehouse had some overly excitable people I just didn't want to deal with back then, certainly can't speak about them now.

Classic D&D tropes you've never mastered

OF the ones listed the only one that gives me any problems is puzzles. It seems to take the right kind of players to not only solve puzzles, but to enjoy doing so, so I rarely use them.

    Mallus Rediscovers AD&D

I know, that is why I quit going there several years ago, despite liking a good half dozen or more of the board members.

You can talk "gently" in very specific forums, but if you go into General, or any of the D&D specific forums, and even start to compare/contrast "their" editions of D&D with 3E or 4E they get bent out of shape, pretty much immediately. They have been much better the last few years, instead of...

Any love for the Scarred Lands?

I don't know, they definitely have enough differences to check out each. Midnight has its own cool concept, as well as Dawnforge, and even Eberron, even though that one failed to interest me. Only reason I have so much of Eberron, maybe even everything, is because I got them so cheap. I believe...

Any love for the Scarred Lands?

Solid recommendations! Also, wasn't that Mithril City supplement part of SL? Or is that another setting? There were several books set around swamps (Blood Bayou?) that ended up having a lot of cool ideas and a couple of great villains in them.

Introducing 10 year olds to D&D

I admit it is tricky. Most of the time they take PC deaths very well, especially if you, the GM, are positive about it. Say something like, "Aw man! ITs a shame Mallus died, but he had an awesome death at the hands of those Orcs! You know what else that means? You get to create and try out a new...

Introducing 10 year olds to D&D

Use the various dice. Plus don't be afraid to kill them. Its best to teach them now how to "die well" in an RPG. To put losing a character into the right perspective and to take it in stride. Plus, once they catch on, don't under estimate them. Hopefully their Dads won't overshadow them and...

    Mallus Rediscovers AD&D

They tend to do pbp only, but I have found several of them "modern" enough to play online using Maptools and SKYPE.

    Mallus Rediscovers AD&D

They are a good forum. However, like I posted before, do not mention in any way the "other" RPG's called D&D. They get very bent out of shape, immediately. So if you remember nothing but 2E and earlier exist, D&D wise, your going to have a good experience. Forget that, and they get ugly.

    Mallus Rediscovers AD&D

The only problem with DF is if you in any way, shape or form even MENTION even the very existence of any other edition of D&D. IF you even dare to do any kind of compare and contrast, WATCH OUT! So if you talk only 1E or 2E or OD&D, you'll be OK, but don't even mention your even aware "other"...

Simpler is better. At least that is why I returned to the "old school" games, and it sounds like your definitely getting into how "simple" it is.

Any love for the Scarred Lands?

Never ran the setting, I really did not like the Titans angle, but I stole liberally from many of its supplements. Lots of great supplements just full of usable ideas to steal. Not to mention entire cities.
