    Campaign Ideas/Plots - Need inspiration

The next campaign I'm going to run is based on the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel). I'm going to be using 4e, with the heroic levels representing High School, Paragon levels representing College/Adult. The campaign idea is that the High School is a representation of Sigil, with the PCs weekly...

WotC_GregB talks about using a laptop at the game table.

I just downloaded the free version. Thanks for the heads up on this! Very cool.

Any New Info on Skill Encounters?

Where were you when they had the campaign setting search? Dammit, who needs Eberron when you could have the Magical Land of Horny Princesses with +5 Holy Avengers who have a thing for Dragonborn women with Big Boobs? Ok...maybe that title is a bit long.

    D&D 4E Two-on-Two 4e Brawl

Personally, I would prefer that the rules don't explain everything that can be done in the world. I want a system with enough consistency that allows me to rule things quickly without having to look in the book. This is why 3e failed me. I don't want to have to spend 10 minutes scouring for a...

Any New Info on Skill Encounters?

I love the idea of this system. Application of it will take some rethinking on my part, which will be the hard part. Giving up authorial control to the players will be hard for a lot of DMs. But in the end, I think it will make for a much more satisfying game...for the GM and the players.

The Best & Worst of 3rd Edition: FINAL FIVE: PHB II, UA, Eberon, Ptolus, Pathfinder

 Pathfinder for me. I'm running these currently and my group is having a helluva fun time with it.

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder #1: I have it. Spoilers.

Ran the first session of this last night. Went very well. The players loved the goblins. I had a little bit of a problem keeping the party in town, but they seemed to take it in stride. Got as far as the glassworks encounter. Great fun. One quote from the game: Player: "So what did the...

    D&D 4E Will you buy 4e?

Most likely. Looking at it as a seperate game than 3.5, which we might still play. Too early to tell really.

What do you miss from the good ol' days?

Not having to work and hanging out with my friends gaming for the entire weekend. Our only worry was that the GM's mom would make him go home early for church.

    Henchmen, Followers, Cohorts and Companions

My group generally runs one character, but personally, I like NPCs, both as a player and GM. (But not a GM PC...everyone hates those) I like cohorts to fill roles that the party may not have covered, like a tracker, trapsmith, sage...etc. They also serve as a great info conduit from the GM...

Hardest things to balance in game

I've had the same problem. A tweaked damage dealer with a group that was less optimized for combat. In trying to balance combat for that particular character, the rest of the party could have easily been slaughtered. If that character dropped, they were pretty much screwed.

    Societies and Alignment Detection

Of course, if he's a PC paladin, he probably uses the "Kill em all, let my god sort em out" philosophy.

    Societies and Alignment Detection

Thanks for the clarification, Misdirection did its job by confusing me. That makes Magic Aura a lot more interesting. I was using it only to hide magic items. About the LGs using Detect Evil to kill those that ping evil: I would think those that show up as faint (an evil 1st level commoner)...

    Societies and Alignment Detection

I think the spell allows for you to use a person's aura as the misdirected one? So if you're evil, target one of your minions or even your own evil aura. (Of course, Im probably misreading the use of the word object in the spell description, the Target does say, Person or Object,) (Yes, it...

    Societies and Alignment Detection

Also, Misdirection can be cast on someone else to change thier aura to say....an evil one. So that goody goody paladin causing problems? Cast Misdirection on him and use an evil aura as the replacement aura. Do that before a "Detect Evil" pogrom and he's got troubles.

    Societies and Alignment Detection

Those with a vested interest in doing evil would find ways around being Detected. Just look at the Misdirection spell. Its lasts for hours, is relatively low level, and can easily fool Detect Evil. Detect Evil, like lie detectors, are not infallible, so you can't base an entire law system...
