    A Far Out Rant

That's a good point. Should make them beyond alignment, so far so that alignment based effects have no impact on them. (Also makes them more powerful)

Does D&D require healing magic? And is that a good thing?

As a friend of mine once said, look at the movie Aliens. Its a bug hunt and almost all combat. But there was a lot of roleplaying too. A good group can roleplay in any system. YMMV of course.

    Don't underestimate the Bard

Eberron Campaign Setting. One feat. $39.95. And if the GM or Players have been reading these particular threads, they can use the feats for free! While I agree the Bard is not as central as say, the cleric, the fighter, or the wizard, hes a decent sub for the Rogue or a fifth member. YMMV of...

    Player Enablement

"Consider Yes" reminds me of Dogs in the Vineyard. One of the main rules, if you want to call it a rule, is Roll Dice or Say Yes. In that game, you only roll dice if something is in conflict. Otherwise, the gm says yes. Being a long time GM, I'm still finding it hard to do, but it goes a...

    Ridiculous amount of buffs

Did you ban the buff spells or is there just an understanding that these bonuses replace those spells?

What is the standard ability score set? Are most games playing too high?

The main issue we had with rolling stats is the imbalance among players, if one rolled well and others rolled crappy. Nobody likes to be the kid getting sand kicked in his face.

    Don't underestimate the Bard

Another good point, in a larger group you have more room for non-standard classes

    Don't underestimate the Bard

Sorry, its just Song of the Heart, which increases the attack/damage bonus by +1.

What is the standard ability score set? Are most games playing too high?

32 points...for all our games for years now.

    Don't underestimate the Bard

Yeah, I think this is the basis of most of the gimp comments. From an individual perspective, they are not that strong (outside social situations), but for the party as a whole, they are awesome.

    Don't underestimate the Bard

Yup, the fighter and the ranger are both two-weapon fighters. Big bonus for the bard's song.

    Don't underestimate the Bard

So I have a 9th level party, with 7 players. A fighter/barb, a wizard, a spirit shaman, a ranger, a monk, a rogue, and one bard. The bard's fighting song, with feats from Eberron, gives the party +3 attack/+3 damage. So assuming all hits: Fighter/Barb: 3 attacks +9 damage Ranger: 4 attacks...

    MIC-Balancing by times per day

In general, the resource management part of DnD is thrown out for my game, considering I have relatively few encounters per day of in-game time. Merric's suggestion is a good one. I can throw more deadly challenges at them, since they will be at full resources during most fights.

    MIC-Balancing by times per day

Yeah, definitely something to keep an eye out for.

    MIC-Balancing by times per day

So I was reading the many many items in the Magic Item Compendium and I noticed that the vast majority of them are balanced via uses per day. Some of the items are extremely powerful for a low cost due to this. But does charges/uses per day really balance anything? For my own game, we see...

    how do you play games?

I like roleplaying, but too much makes my characters chaotic and wanting to kill things.

    [D&D] Confusion about Levels

If I think about it too much, my head hurts. I just make sure the npcs they fight are challenging enough for the session. Anything beyond that is a headache. :)

    Ridiculous amount of buffs

I did this after I got tired of that tactic. One of the characters managed to get paralyzed while the assassins killed his cohort and threw his heart to the dogs in the street. Hilarity ensued as the other PCs arrived and chased the dogs to save the heart for Raise Dead. Or later when mundane...
