D&D 5E (2014) Spell Slot Powered Abilities. Are they spells?

I would also hesitate to prevent a wild shaped druid from using primeval awareness, myself.

D&D 5E (2014) Spell Slot Powered Abilities. Are they spells?

You can use spell slots to power various effects; that doesn't make them spells. And it is certainly possible to cast spells without using spell slots, that doesn't make them not spells. In the rules they are different things, I don't see any compelling reason to mix them up. But of course, if...

    Balancing Homebrew Feats

I'm going to say they seem pretty underpowered on the whole. For instance, Incredible Inventor seems strictly worse than Magic Initiate. (Fearless Warrior would probably be an exception, it might be too strong.) Also, a lot of these do what I personally don't like, which is provide the ability...

    D&D 5E (2014) Storm giants and levitate

As you say, by the rules they can't. Even if they did, what is 20 feet up for a storm giant? They probably use it to lift other things up to where they can be seen :)

Crit and death saves mean automatic ability score damage - Too gritty?

It seems funny to me to say "I hate X! So I'm changing Y, do you think that will work?" Why not just get rid of full healing after a long rest? If you change the healing rules to something you like, and then still want to impose some debilitation from crits and death saves, that's another...

Player asked for a favour: MC Barbarian-Warlock

? It is published in Xanathar's. Also worth noting that a Dex paladin can't combine Elven accuracy, reckless attack and GWF the way the proposed charbarian could.

Barbarian with Mobile and GWM Feats: as cool as it seems?

What you get for not playing an elf. :)

Barbarian with Mobile and GWM Feats: as cool as it seems?

This is a good argument for not turning down the Mobility feat if your DM offers it to you for free. But if you don't plan to use it very often, you might not want to sacrifice a Str boost or an alternative feat to get it.

Do cantrips level with Magic Initiate?

Imagine that the improving damage of cantrips doesn't reflect more raw magical energy, but rather improved effectiveness due to your experience; like you know just when to release the spell and where to aim it to have the most impact? Then it is not too strange that any sort of adventuring...

Barbarian with Mobile and GWM Feats: as cool as it seems?

Are there other characters in your party that can tank in melee and keep the monster from just chasing after you (or the wizard)? The idea makes sense, but often part of a barbarian's job is to soak some damage, in addition to dishing it out.

Player asked for a favour: MC Barbarian-Warlock

I probably wouldn't allow it at my table. I can't say it would be overpowered (though it might be), just seems too cheap and easy. Instead I'd probably try to houserule a barb primal path that enables the character concept.

Do cantrips level with Magic Initiate?

Yes, the cantrip damage is based on your overall level. So a level 8 barbarian with GFB would do, say, 1d12 (axe) + 5 + 1d8 (fire) to the primary target, and 1d8+Cha mod to the secondary target. Before you get too excited, though, remember that you have to give up your extra attack, and you...

D&D 5E (2014) Warlock Pact Weapon and Sentient Weapons

I guess it comes down to two story concerns: first, I feel like making an item into your pact weapon involves a bond between it and your patron, which brings in story complications that you may or may not want to deal with. Whether that is an issue for you depends on how you think about pact...

D&D 5E (2014) Warlock Pact Weapon and Sentient Weapons

I guess it depends how you want to interpret it. I tend to see the pact weapon as fairly intimately tied to the warlock's patron and pact; it is supposed to be a boon from the patron after all. What if the sentient weapon doesn't approve of the patron? It has no choice or recourse but to submit...

    D&D 5E (2024) 6e? Why?

I don’t need a 5.5 (5.1?) cedition, doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like one. And if five years later they revise it again, I won’t complain.

    D&D 5E (2024) 6e? Why?

Myself I would like a 5.5. I think the basic core of the rules are great, but the are some parts that could be improved. Unlike many, though, I appreciated 3.5e too

What's This Mysterious D&D Book? [UPDATED!]

I think you can rest assured that all the errata will be included. I wouldn't count on much else though. Its conceivable that they might be working on a new round of errata that incorporates a few actual design revisions, but I'd be surprised.

D&D 5E (2014) Warlock Pact Weapon and Sentient Weapons

I agree there is no balance justification for disallowing it. But I also support the Sage's ruling on the basis of keeping things simple. Making a intelligent/artifact weapon into a pact weapon raises all kinds of story and RP questions. If a DM is into that, then that's great and they can sort...
