What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

It looks like more of the complexity is in the cards rather than in the class directly?

What do you, personally, need a system to do for you?

That clearly requires a Bend Bars / Lift Gates roll…

    Daggerheart has been Officially Released

I’m looking forward to reading it. This is the second new game to capture my interest; the first was The Broken Empires. They are both systems which take a greatest hits of mechanics in other systems and mix them together to produce something new and interesting. But both are very different...

    Daggerheart has been Officially Released

I don’t have the rules yet (should be with me in a day or so) but my current impression is that DaggerHeart seems similar to 13th Age in so much as the combat system has a fair bit of crunch while the non-combat mechanics are a lot more lightweight while still being present. I liked that about...

I am surprised I am still excited for Daggerheart

I’m not @SteveC and I don’t want to sound facetious, however that was pretty much the summary sales pitch of a whole bunch of not-Wizards D&D-alikes when the OGL scandal happened…

    Daggerheart has been Officially Released

I did, in the UK. I don’t know if they got it through distribution, however.

    Daggerheart has been Officially Released

GM intrusions from Cypher system are similar (I think it is name-checked in the inspiration section). I seem to recall a similar mechanic from the 2d20 games, though I haven’t played those personally. Some of the mechanical options in Cortex Prime also seem similar where a bad roll can result in...

    Daggerheart has been Officially Released

There was also a beta programme, and some people have reviews out based on experience with that. Once they see the final rules they will know if most of their experiences likely still stand or if the final release changed things likely to impact them.

I am surprised I am still excited for Daggerheart

I’ve bought my copy from a UK retailer, there doesn’t seem to be a PDF ‘as standard’ with it. Anyone know if Darrington Press are usually happy to comp copies of PDFs with proof of purpose?

I am surprised I am still excited for Daggerheart

Recent details on this have made me curious, and I managed to find a store in the UK with a couple in stock so, order placed… This video really piqued my interest:

Is this competition open to just people in the USA, or any geography?

What are some alternate ways to think about archetypes?

I hadn’t thought about that, however it is a pretty good description of the differences between the Spidies in ‘Across the Spiderverse’. It’s kind of a meta tag: the context you do things in.

What are some alternate ways to think about archetypes?

The three axis which come to mind for me are: What you do - classic D&D is an example How you do it - Fate accelerated is an example of this Why you do it - Smallville mechanises relationships and ‘virtues’ which are a good example of this. These can exist in combination, for example D&D 4e...

What do you, personally, need a system to do for you?

From my perspective, an RPG system provides the game bit of the role-playing game. As with all games, the system should be understandable and fun to use. The rules should also support the narrative effectively. So, typically that would involve a core mechanic which is used in a pretty...

What does it take for an RPG to die?

(Thread too long - didn’t read!) I think RPGs are like Pratchett’s gods - as long as one person somewhere is reading a game and planning running it, or even a better a group is running it, that RPG is still alive.

In-person Game cancelled. What do you play?

Board games are our second choice for game nights. We might play one because someone can’t make it, or life and work has meant the GM couldn’t prep in time for the current session, or we are having a short rest between campaigns. We don’t sweat it, roleplaying is fun, not work, so there is no...

For those who don't play D&D (or its clones), what keeps you engaged with EN World?

I still play D&D from time to time, even though it isn’t my personally favourite there are others in my group who really enjoy it, and I’m ok with that. Even with that, I rarely frequent the D&D forums here. This site has a good mix of industry news, and some great general discussion threads...

Do Shorter Lists Make Players/GMs More Creative?

I think it’s complicated, to give a non-answer. If I consider GURPS with it’s huge lists of advantages, for example, I still find that a system that fosters creativity whereas looking at something like feats in 3.x derived games I find them to be constricting. So I don’t think it is how long...
