Got to admit, sometimes I wonder what kind of verdict something like this would get from the assembled folks. :)

D&D 4E 4e tiefling art vs. previous edition tiefling art?

Of course it should be amended that tieflings used to have a variety of looks based on who exactly was their great-great-ancestor, so the 4e depiction could be just another variant from a demon/devil who had excessively big horns. :)

D&D 4E 4e tiefling art vs. previous edition tiefling art?

Yeah...all you need to do is extend the hornplate up and out behind her head to end in two pointy horns, and of course shave off those caterpillar eyebrows. Nope, sorry...they may depict the same kind of tiefling, but the way they do are pretty much different. If by concept sketch you mean...

D&D 4E 4e tiefling art vs. previous edition tiefling art?

Already noticed and am working on correcting it. But thanks nonetheless. :)

D&D 4E 4e tiefling art vs. previous edition tiefling art?

While I'm not that invested in the planetouched, looks can make a difference...even if you want them more "horny" than 2e presented them now and then. If you look at the preview of tieflings for 4e, their horns make them look like Klingon offshoots. http://www.enworld.org/images/4e/tiefling.jpg...

    4th edition-induced wonky-rules apathy

Not at all, quite the contrary...it's got me thinking on how some of the concepts of 4E can be simulated with 3E while using the current rules. Quite a fun experiment sometimes, and it's not too hard to do either in some places. :)

I don't know about the rest, but that warforged could easily appear in a Studio Ghibli movie the way it is done. :)

And that's just as it should be. :D

Is 4th edition getting soft? - edited for friendly content :)

So if the Bodak did something like 1d6 points Con loss per round with his gaze attack, would that be better? Or rather 1d4 points level loss per round? Or, going with the "hit points represent ALL" philosophy, something like "its current hit points in damage, Fort save for half"? I don't know...

    Per-Encounter/Per-Day Design and Gameplay Restrictions

Nah, I agree that especially higher-level magic-users/wizards are a class that reward more experienced players more than, say, fighters or thieves/rogues. On the other hand, given the leveling speed in older editions, a player WAS more experienced by the time his magic-user hit the levels where...

    Per-Encounter/Per-Day Design and Gameplay Restrictions

You know, this is something I never really followed from my own experience, since my first character was a magic-user, and it really took me some time before I played a fighter. Also had plenty of first-time players who went for a wizard of some flavour, without so many problems that many seem...

    D&D 3.x Does 4e sound more D&Dish to you than 3e did?

Wow...care to explain that leap of logic that leads you from me saying that 4E does NOT sound more D&Dish to me than 3E did to me involving myself in topics that are of no interest to me? Or did you simply quote the wrong person? Just trying to chase off everybody who isn't jumping up and down...

    D&D 4E Paizo and 4e - Vive le Revolution!

Likewise. I believe that encounter design already will be vastly different for a game with mostly per-day abilities and a game with mostly per-encounter abilities, which makes adventures for each game pretty much incompatible.

    D&D 4E Paizo and 4e - Vive le Revolution!

It would definitely be worth taking a look at and, the job market willing, spending some cash on. Just want to chime in to voice my support of any potential project like that, in case the people who might pull it off are interested in that. :)

Incidentally, I wonder if one could make a case for the gold dragon design to be influenced by anime. But I'm with you there on that cover...even though I don't really feel it's so much in MY face and rather in the fighter's face. In "my face" is something like this... ...where I...

    D&D 4E Paizo and 4e - Vive le Revolution!

Errr, not from my experience with video games. ;) Video gamey would be if they simply tossed a few health potions and continued on, knowing that some soldiers, servants, chests or even statues would drop new health potions on the way, along with potions that restore spell slots.

Heh...you just broadhandedly rolled three different artists into one, and called them all sloppy and lazy. ;) Funny...I'm curious now, did, or did you not, recognize you're dealing with three different artistic styles there? I'm afraid I was hijacking Hussar's thread, so I apologize and stop...

I'm not sure where your impression about the "posing" comes from...the lack of "movement lines"? Those are paintings, not computer-colored and enhanced drawings, so they do have different components in their make-up. :) The companions in the first picture (the Gandalf-clone is Elminster, if I...

I'm not a 100% sure about the chronology of some of them, but there you go... Of course, they are not quite as "in your face" as the Reynolds action shots, and they are a bit lighter on screaming and shouting faces, and of course they did enough "stills" as well...but there was more...

    D&D 3.x Does 4e sound more D&Dish to you than 3e did?

Wow...that's a perfect sample of what annoys me with the official WotC announcements, too...lots of nice pictures, no real substance as to what it's supposed to mean. Is marketing speak contagious?
