Trip is an Encounter Power now

Even though it shows my ignorance of the problem due to never having had one of those in one of my games...but what's the big problem about the combination of Spiked Chain and Improved Trip? What happened at real table games that makes this combination so overpowering? On paper, it looks like...

    Le Gamers de Femme

Mmmmmh, can't say how the ratio is, but during my study years, my game group there consisted of one other guy and 2-3 girls regularly, through L5R and Shadowrun games. And while a giggled "Heh, cool!" might not be the typical male reaction to a Mana Bolt pan-frying an orc ganger's brain in one...

Our (as in ENWorld's) tribute to Gary

Thank you! My most heartfelt thanks, Michael. This is a great idea, and wonderfully executed. :D

Trip is an Encounter Power now

I think as long as there isn't a polearm-expert speaking up on how realistic it is that he can trip folks with clubs and hayforks only once every 5 minutes, I'll take the word of unarmed-combat specialists on heavily-armed combatants wielding weapons meant to trip an inferior foe a lot of times...

Monte Cook: No Love For Fighters

Well, I got BoXM (along with Tournaments, Fairs & Taverns) from the ENWorld Shop, and I like what I've seen. A book chock full of options that I can add to or leave out of my games. And there's a lot of interesting ideas. I'd love to see what Monte Cook has in mind for fighters. :D

Trip is an Encounter Power now

The funniest part of this thread is realizing that there are plenty of people here who had problems with Vancian Magic "arbitrarily" limiting magic use on account of how powerful it was, and who find it a lot nicer (and some even more realistic) than it is turned into a mix of at will and per...

Reason 'squares' is better than 'feet': the metric system

Argh! Stop that! I know my brain will never let go of this information again, while rejecting anything new I'd need for my actual job! Please, could somebody make chemistry into an RPG so it would stick better to my memory? :uhoh: Just kidding. Thanks for that tidbit, I always find it...

Reason 'squares' is better than 'feet': the metric system

Just a comment...and this one is completely unrelated to any specific edition. Anybody who has 5' paces doesn't fall under the "Medium" size category anymore. I've simply experimented a bit, and with 1' square tiles it's like having a small battlemap on my floor, and my "normal" pacing...

Reason 'squares' is better than 'feet': the metric system

I have to say, I like this one, at least as a reasoning for area measurements in 5' squares. It's akin to measuring a room in Japan in multiples of "tatami mats". :) The question is more if the battlemap represents all of D&D reality, and hence the rest of the world is represented by a giant...

Reason 'squares' is better than 'feet': the metric system

Without wanting to sound aloof or anything, but you really need to read up on the history of measurement units. They might have been a bit arbitrary, in that a unit referencing some body part or other was based on the body part of the ruler who established it, but in general, a society that used...

Jason Bulmahn Speaks about DDXP(His take on the system)

Only when 5E rolls around, and designers will convince us that using one main "at will" ability every round is so no fun, and that it will be a lot more exciting if you have 3-5 at will abilities that are roughly equal in combat power but completely different in effect. ;) Hmmmm, shifting the...

Reason 'squares' is better than 'feet': the metric system

Well, just to speak as a guy from a thoroughly metric country...I have no problems with either thinking in feet, or with calculating distances in meters fast enough to not make much of a difference, if it is really called for. Feet and inches (as in body height) is another matter, since 1 inch =...

    Request for ENworld Gygax Memorial

Fully agree to this suggestion. Now that the creator of D&D is not around anymore to answer questions about his creation, it'd be a great service to save the answers he gave for future reference. It's a collection of wisdom that shouldn't get lost. :)

Request for Dedication to Gary Gygax

Thank you, Mr. Rouse and WotC.

Gary Gygax has passed. RIP beloved father of RPG's. (merged)

The more this sad piece of news settles, the more it chokes me up, even though I never met him, or even conversed with him outside a few posts on the internet. I look at my shelves and see his work on them. I look at my life, and find many of my friends being there only because I got to know...

    D&D 4E AICN Massawyrm's 4E Review - Part 3

My best guess? "Kästchen" :uhoh: Now doesn't that scream roleplaying game to you?

D&D eXPerience: Core Mechanics (now compiled in 1st post!)

To be complete: 3E Haste: 1 additional partial action per round for #rounds = caster level, 1/spell/day 4E: 1 additional action per action point, at least 1 action point/day, averaging 1/encounter And then the spell was nerfed for granting additional partial actions (unspecified ones) for...

    My take.

Yeah, but does anybody appreciate how much hard work has gone into keeping roleplaying alive despite the best and nastiest attempts of the industry? No. People treat it as if it's natural that people still roleplay with D&D, while it's the result of the sweat, blood and tears of countless DMs...
