    Little Known Rules of D&D

From the rules: "Ranged Attacks Underwater Thrown weapons are ineffective underwater, even when launched from land. Attacks with other ranged weapons take a -2 penalty on attack rolls for every 5 feet of water they pass through, in addition to the normal penalties for range. "

Dice and Math-- Need math people!

The recent writers for GURPS (math-heads) concluded that there was really no point in rolling more than 6d6.

Turn Undead per Day and Low Charisma?

Correct. From the 3.5 FAQ: "a change to the key ability score indeed affects the daily limit— in the example above, the cleric would gain 2 additional turn/rebuke attempts per day—but these aren’t just “free” uses. Here’s why: Assume the cleric above has a normal Charisma score of 12, granting...

Quicked Dimension Door in the Astal Plane

Agreed; a quickened dimension-door would not allow them to do what the writer thinks. Such mistakes are common enough though. No biggie. As a fix (assuming the githyanki ability allows them to bring others as normal), just have one githyanki dimension door his teammates, who have delayed their...

That's how I used to view it also. However, I learned from other long discussions on the topic that the bow actually imbues the arrow (making it magical, so it can bypass DR/magic). This is also consistent with how other magical bow effects affect arrows.

Does anybody else give out XP bonuses for "extras"?

Ya know... I've noticed that XP compensation doesn't make much of a difference. Players typically do what they want to do without this consideration. Still, it's nice to be appreciated. Besides, the real rewards (besides "satisfaction in a job well done" and "I just enjoy doing it") for such...

Rules Compendium anti magic field example

Yup. Since the rules say, "An ethereal creature can’t affect the Material Plane, not even magically" I would have to agree. But for our purposes, it seems to imply what sort of ruling Skip would likely make on the invisible+gaze+see invisible issue (which does seem subject to some interpretation).

From the RotG (fwiw, if desired): "The rules don't mention it, but you reasonably can assume that a creature looking into the Ethereal Plane with a divination spell (such as true seeing or see invisibility) would be susceptible to a gaze attack from an ethereal creature."

Does anybody else give out XP bonuses for "extras"?

One of my house rules is: "Extra game related efforts like writing a character background, obtaining a character picture, writing an adventure summary, etc. gains you an XP award of your current level x 100." This can also include things like roleplaying via email between sessions, maintaining...

Using produce flame to make a touch AoO

From the Rules of the Game (if desired): "Though you cannot cast a spell as an attack of opportunity, you can use some spells as attacks of opportunity. If you're holding the charge from a touch spell, you can try to touch a foe as an attack of opportunity. Some spells last long enough to let...

    Call/Rebuke

You would need a diety that: 1) Has the fire domain (to enable you to rebuke fire elementals), and 2) Hates fire elementals, and 3) Has spare fire elementals that he can send you for spanking purposes If you have such a diety, I'm guessing your diety's wrath is the least of your (and your...

I do (as do my groups). But then, I believe that demonstrably RAI readings are valid, and that strict literal readings can sometimes be invalid (something we often disagree on).

Good catch. That seems like a valid point.

Interestingly, all groups I've played with interpreted the original text that way, so it seems like it was subject to some interpretation.

Rules Compendium anti magic field example

I don't know if I would call that a rule change so much as a clarification. But yes, the text was changed, and it seems like the sort of thing that should've also appeared in the errata. We could call it "stealth errata", but that seems to imply that WotC did it on purpose. I think it's more...

    Call/Rebuke

I think the point the OP was trying to make is that the planar ally spells are "Duration: Instantaneous"... the ally is choosing not to return home because you give it loot.

From earlier discussions on this, it appears to be the later (since such arrows can penetrate DR/magic). This fits with the ruling. The enlarge spell says: "Any enlarged item that leaves an enlarged creature’s possession (including a projectile or thrown weapon) instantly returns to its normal...
