    Have we lost the dungeon?

I'm sooo sick of overland adventures. We've come off a two year long Midnight campaign that had to be 85% overland. Gimme a good year of boxed text describing rooms, please. As a DM, running city based adventures is a very different beast from dungeons. Expect the party to be able to heal and...

    Appropriate Material for Younger Players

I tried to run my two brother-in-laws through a game of D&D when they were 8 and 10. Rudwilla's Stew from an old issue of Dungeon. Simple enough. A fight against a fairy tale style witch. Things were going along fine and just when mom walked in (who was VERY protective of her boys), the...

The Bible--Wars, Culture, Faith, and Inspiration

I use OT biblical names in my campaigns quite often, there are sites out there that have what's called a greek/hebrew (the original languages of the NT/OT respectively) lexicon. You can find the original language/root words, making for some great names for people, locations etc. I used a lot...

    D&D Race Survivor -- Round 2

Half elf...never played one, never will. Gimme an extra feat to show my human side, or an ability score mod and I'll play one. Otherwise 'elf lite' doesn't cut it.

    GURPS at 50%

GURPS suffers from good game-itis. All you really need is the core rules and if you have a little bit of time and creativity, you don't need any other books. Vampire and d6 Star Wars also 'suffered' from this. Good for gamers, bad for game companies. That being said, I want to check out the...

Ultimate Feat Survivor ROUND IS OVER

I can't believe power attack is losing. Power attack is sooo useful at higher levels. :\

    Gencon Couples, Help me!

My first thought was 'give her an easy out', have her attend for one day - but you kids are from New York, so that's a big investment in time and $ just to get to Indy. She sounds cool with you going, it's only 4 days away from her. You'll both live!

    Arguments That Never Die

I want to see the minis before I judge. Not so crazy about 15mm but how could they realistically package a 25mm King Tiger in such a way that you couldn't detect it based sheerly on the weight of the package?

Ever Use Star Wars Minis for D&D?

Since I've used buttons, nickels, scraps of paper etc for representations at one time or another, I can't complain about using SW minis.

    d20 Hatred near you?

I defend d20 occasionally on the d6 WEG board and on Christianforums gaming forum - ironically not from people who think gaming is bad, but from people loyal to the storyteller system, who think it's the only system one ever needs. I sometimes feel like the only person who has the capabilty to...

So, what makes 1e adventures so great?

Why were they so great? Because I was 12, mainly. I think the position of DM had much more mystery and prestige then. There weren't formulas for determining threat level or the cost for creating magic items. I think the 3rd edition DM's guide is a million times more valuable than the 1st ed...

Would you spend $100 for a monster book?

Never. I hate paying $39 for game books as it is.

PC sex relative to player sex

I usually play my sex (Male), but have made female characters once in a while. I know a guy who only plays female characters - and plays them really cheezily, it sorta creeps me out. Whatever floats yer boat.

Any other hobbies cause you to lose players?

Both WoW and poker. Both major distractions to the two groups I'm a part of. :\

Any other hobbies cause you to lose players?

I understand jobs and moving and stuff. I'm talking about losing rpg groups to other forms of gaming, that's the focus of this poll.

Any other hobbies cause you to lose players?

Over the years, I've been in tabletop RPG gaming groups that have diminished or disbanded because of new trends in entertainment/hobbies. Any of you experience this?

We gotta check this new game out guys!

Cool..hee hee! Given the time period, that's actually not that bad of a commercial. It at least clearly seperated the real vs. game world - thankfully not showing the players portraying their characters while in the 'game world', or something equally embarrassing.

Portrait of the Dungeonmaster as a Young Man

Sniff...this thread is so awesome. I have a 15 m.o. boy at home, when he's old enough not to stuff the dice in his mouth when I hand them to him, he's rolling up his first character.
