Going to GenCon Indy for the first time

Yeah, my flights have been two-stop - e.g. Newcastle to Schipol, Schipol to Chicago, CHicago to Indianapolis. Worked out about 18 hours door-to-door, IIRC.

Going to GenCon Indy for the first time

Plus it avoids an extra couple of hours (at least) on an extra stopover on what is already a fairly long flight. £625 seems to be a decent price.

Going to GenCon Indy for the first time

2007 I flew from Manchester for £587 with Delta. 2008 I flew from Newcastle (via Schipol) for £710 with American Airlines (I think the booking may have been with KLM, using AA as a partner). I haven't looked at prices yet for this year. For accommodation, I shared with online friends at the...

    Snowed in?

Yeah, not much snow here, but it took ages to clear my drive because of all the ice underneath it.

    BBC to feature D&D

Thanks for the heads-up. The first episode is being repeated on BBC4 in 30 minutes, so I've set it to record. Episode two is 9pm GMT Monday night.

Probably either BRP or Savage Worlds.

    Scavenger's Guide to Droids

Thanks for the heads up. I was just thinking about restarting my Imperial Spy campaign, and one of the PCs is a droid.

Were the 80s really the Golden Age of D&D?

What about GURPS, Traveller, Runequest and Call of Cthulhu?

    Top Gear vs D&D: Fear

Well, Jeremy Clarkson is a commoner / villager / NPC class. The equivalent of a D&D PC would be a racing driver, who would be able to overcome his fear to perform as well in real life as on a video game, despite the risk. No disrespect to Mr Clarkson - being able to achieve a sub-10 minute...

What's Your Favorite New/Retro Pony Car?

I think everyone parks with their parking brake off (and out of gear), so that people wanting to leave simply shunt backwards and forwards until they've made enough space to leave. At least that's what my dad reports seeing in Paris about 20 years ago. Of course, that's probably not such a...

    WFRP3e: Dice mechanics

Yeah, I don't currently play WHFRP, but I'm curious to hear people's experiences of 3e, and it will be interesting to see how this approach to packaging an RPG influences other companies (if at all). I found the comments in the article about "stance" interesting - my understanding from reading...

Do you play RPGs at conventions?

Yes, I managed to squeeze in some games in between the socialising ;) The two Gencons I've been to so far I played almost exclusively in games run by fellow Circvs Maximvs board members. All were one-shot, and I just picked games that sounded fun because of the description, the person running...

What's Your Favorite New/Retro Pony Car?

Yeah, it is so manouverable for its size. I remember watching a couple practice just off the coast at Yorkshire in the 80's, and they were turning so tightly - it looked so graceful, then they opened the throttles :) I've just done a little digging. Puzzles & Games was the one that was there...

    "God Bless America"

Well, in England we had to say the Cub Scout motto every week: "I promise to do my duty, to God and to the Queen, to help other people, and to keep the Cub Scout law". Saluting, caps on and off, and all of that I only got when in the Air Training Corps. Most English know the national anthem...

What's Your Favorite New/Retro Pony Car?

Vulcan to the Sky Trust have managed to get it flying again, and I saw it last month at Sunderland Airshow, flown by one of the pilots that operated in Black Buck - at the time the longest bombing raid in history, until 1991 when B52s from Mildenhall attacked Iraq. It was as impressive as I...

is it worth it going to GenCon Indy 2009?

Thanks for the tips, Mike. Unfortunately getting down to London would add more than the saving in airfare, and I've already got friends on CM I roomshare with, so that cost is very small in comparison to the airfare. Believe me - I looked into all kinds of ways to reduce my airfare!

What's Your Favorite New/Retro Pony Car?

Subarus always seem to be popular with their owners, whenever I read car surveys. Farmers in particular like them for their 4wd no-nonsense ability to navigate muddy farm tracks. My Honda Civic was nice and reliable. Great fun on a race track, too :) As an aside, I saw a great airshow at...

is it worth it going to GenCon Indy 2009?

I booked directly through the airlines, after using various search sites to get an idea of who was cheapest. I started looking at flight prices around Christmas time, but didn't book till quite late - June, IIRC. Prices didn't change much, but I did find that routes I had been considering...
