Wing and Sword: Life During Wartime

Normand shakes his head. "Cigars' the way. Gotta smoke 'em when ya got time to enjoy 'em, keeps ya from smokin' em on the go like this. 'Course, I could outwalk all of ya anyway, bunch 'a wimps."

    My Beef with Social Skills

This is the same old problem. Because RPGs social game, many people take offense at the idea that they need to roll to see if their characters succeed at social skills. They won't bat an eye at having to make a jump check, and would be offended if asked to jump over a certain distance for...

Wing and Sword: a d20 Modern military campaign [METAGAME]

Also, without the so-called chatter between NPCs, it would take an unrealistic amount of time for our PCs to get an idea of what makes the PCs tick, -and- it would only happen through direct interaction, which would force unnatural conflicts.

    What was "player skill"?

Reading Mr Gygax.. Err, He'll get mad. Gary's response, I guess it puts me in the ranks of "skilled players" that when I see "retinue", I read "people to walk 10' ahead and open doors".

Game balance and 3rd edition implications

Everybody likes to complain. Some people play 3E and complain that stuff is not balanced. Some play OD&D (or an equivalent) and complain that suff is cheesy (as I mentioned earlier). Some people play both and complain that people complain too much.

That they do, and they are free to price their products in consequence. I sorta assume that my (and everyone else's) posts assume a IMHO disclaimer. Edit: of course, some things are less subjects to opinions than others. I'd say that is one, and would be happy to explain why, but I've done so...

    Rappan Athuk Reloaded at DTRPG.COM

Personally, I'd say it depends on the product. If a product is released solely as a PDF, the cost is pretty high. You have to pay the authors, artists, editors, etc.. solely out of the PDF sales. In the case of a book that is released as both PDF and print, it's a little muddier. I'd say...

What language is the Common of our world?

If there was no "There is no such language" poll option, than yes, english would be it. But, at least compared to the current iteration of D&D, english is nowhere near common.

how to convince people that D&D is not evil

That's.. Really weird. I know/have known a lot of people in the military, and most of them played/have seen people playing RPGs of some sort. Lotsa free time with nothing to do in the military..

Game balance and 3rd edition implications

That's because most such games end up with the "Mother may I?" problem, which is a lot more annoying than complaints about balance ever will be.

What language is the Common of our world?

Isn't the fact that the show was translated, and that the english original version wasn't "good enough" for the whole planet proof that english isn't our world's common?

how to convince people that D&D is not evil

Ask if Christopher Lee and Ian McKellen are evil for having portrayed Saruman and Gandalf in the LOTR movies. If they say no, explain that what you do when you play D&D is even farther removed from really casting spells than what they did. If they say yes, you are out of luck. If their...

What language is the Common of our world?

Anywhere on the island of Montreal, you can get away with only speaking english. Every store/service place will have at least one person who understands/speak it at least well enough for the purpose of the store/service. Quebec City isn't quite as easy, but you could still easily manage...

Game balance and 3rd edition implications

I've played D&D way before 3e, and I don't think people complained less. Sure, they didn't say "this isn't balanced!", they said "This is so cheesy!", or "This makes no sense!" or "There's no way X would do Y!". The words change, the whining's exactly the same.

My character can beat up your character!

My character is called The Darkness. And everybody knows the stupidest thing anybody ever said is "I attack The Darkness." Why do you think that is, hmmm?

    Gaming Food

Usually we just share chips/crackers/chocolate/whatever, with some people bringing dinner, and some having already ate. About once a month though, we all chip in and the host of the game makes sushi and other such things, and that's always the best gaming nights. Hmm. Maybe I should run OA...
