Can anyone explain to me please how Specific Checks work? I am reading through a copy of the Mayfair edition I bought from my local Half Price Books and I am confused as heck in trying to determine what level of success rolls come up as.

I have the Dark Sun campaign books, a DDI sub and a tonof other 4e books, including Essentials. I am a VERY experienced RPG gamer and have a lot of experience with D&D 4e as well. I am seeking a Dark Sun campaign in or near the Columbus area.

Rodney Thompson, the chief designer for the game from WotC, has already clarified this on the Order 66 Podcast over at d20radio.com. You can indeed block/deflect a crit. I suggest downloading the official FAQ at the WotC forums.
