    Do you let your players...?

Just the other night my Monk got knocked unconcious in battle. The party cleric runs up to me to case a cure spell. The player asks me "what hit points are you at?" I say "There's no way for you to know that exactly, I'm unconcious and bleeding." He says "I want to know if I should use a...

What would you do to make the d20 system more realistic?

My "gritty" Hp system: AC & Hit Points work normally. Characters at "Zero" Hit Points = Can only perform partial actions. Characters at "negative" Hit Points (here's where it gets interesting): Any damage taken below Zero Hp = Hp damage AND Temporary Con Damage. Example: 2nd lvl PC with 15...

    Usefulness of Cantrips? (free actions?)

I have been pondering a whole slew of house rules for my campaign. During this process, I recalled that VERY FEW cantrips are ever used in combat. Even the low level spell casters usually have better things to do than cast any cantrips. How often have PC's (or NPC's for that matter) used...

    Quick FR book question

I never read Cormyr: A Novel, but "High Road" and "Death of the Dragon" were good. High Road was really good, but ended in an almost cliff hanger.

    Fiction in Dragon magazine??

Assuming that there are few outlets for fantasy fiction, still doesn't answer why it should be taking up space in a GAMING magazine. Maybe we could convince People magazine to start carrying fantasy fiction. The characters in the stories are, after all, "People". (aside from a few elves and...

    Fiction in Dragon magazine??

Why must there be fiction in Dragon magazine? I'm not argueing about the quality of any of the fiction that has been published. Just the reason it is included in a "Dungeons & Dragons" magazine. There are many, many, many outlets for fiction and short stories. Anyone looking for fantasy...

    Iron Kingdoms question - witchcraft?

I've been reading thru the witchfire trilogy modules lately, and I'm a little foggy on one of the main plot points for the first module "The Longest Night". If the Iron Kingdoms accept Wizards and Clerics and such, why is "Witchcraft" illegal? What constitutes "Witchcraft"? Is being a Sorcerer...

    Quick ?: Expertise+Fight Defensively

I know this has been debated many many times, but what was the final verdict? Can you use Expertise and Fight defensively in the same round? Dodge bonuses DO stack. I think no, but what is the semi-official verdict, if one exists?

Wizards 2 free spells ? and Specialization

I'm a Diviner specialist. I love True Strike, but it sucks prepairing it in my 2nd lvl Divination slot because there is nothing else worth while to prep there. Detect Invisibility......? um, no.

Is the shield spell too powerful?

I would just say the "shield" effect is visible (but transparent), so attackers know it's there, and probably know how it works if they are average or better Int. After that, 5' steps can help defeat it. Another fix might be to reduce it's duration, or put a variable duration of 1d4 rounds plus...
