What alternatives to "human" are there?

It would depend on who was naming them. Halflings in my setting call them "Twicelings".

    Necromancer Games Under Fire?

I do stand up comedy at the open mic level, and this situation reminds me of this judge who was told he had to quit stand up. He quit being a judge instead.

Fantasy Novels: Do The Rules Of Magic Matter To You?

Rules are very important to me. I don't like arbitrary fiction. When you have rules, you can explore them. When you don't, any plot development from things like magic is essentially meaningless. It's not always about magic either. Any fiction needs rules, whether those rules are the rules of...

Tribute- an Effects-Based RPG based on Kabbalah. (under development)

I've completely rewritten the articles on Frames, Powers, and Functions for clarity. For the most part I cut the cruft and tried to be more direct. I've given examples of things you'd want them for, as well. In addition, I've written an in-depth example of creating a magic item. Thanks for...

What are your "must haves" for a virtual tabletop?

To answer the thread title directly, for me a new virtual tabletop would need: -3d, rollable dice, with stranger types like d30s, fudge dice, and others that you can choose from to fill a "dice bag" for a given campaign. The ability to customize the exact look of the dice in your dice bag by...

Tribute- an Effects-Based RPG based on Kabbalah. (under development)

Yeah, I ll get there. :D it's a very different approach to RPG design, so I understand that it won't be immediately comprehensible. I do plan to write the next post about putting all of the concepts together with some examples of how to use the system. I know the first posts were a huge info...

Tribute- an Effects-Based RPG based on Kabbalah. (under development)

I've been working on Tribute -my holy grail game- for years, but it's only within the past few months that its finally begun to come together. A few years back I hit on the idea that I wanted an Effects-Based system that allowed you to build your own effects from scratch. It would have to be...

    The problem with rogues.

Yeah, I guess I was talking about which class I'd like to see take the lead in any given situation. Edit: Also, I'm glad you saw that I mentioned your blog, because I really enjoyed those articles.

    The problem with rogues.

I take issue with the philosophy that classes should only be about combat role. The game is more than just combat. Classes should be about setting role, if you ask me. I recently read a good series of articles on roles in RPGs, starting with this one. In my ideal D&D, Fighters Fight, Wizards...

    (Poll) Metric or Imperial

I live in the US, but I prefer metric for game mechanics. It's more logical. Edit: And if you base distances on meters, it's easy enough to tell the reader to pretend you said "yards".

D&D 5E (2014) My nearly comprehensive critique of the August Packet

It sounds like they're really losing the plot. I haven't followed the development for the past few packets because they kept making changes for the worse. Looks like the trend hasn't ended. I'm disappointed, but I still have Pathfinder.

    Help with a Construct

I haven't played 3.0 in years, and have been playing Pathfinder, but my instinct is to look for some sort of an oil that can be applied.

    Help with a Construct

What about advancing it as a fighter? Barbarian would cause issues with Rage/no Con score, so that's probably out.

    Desperately seeking...

Arrows of Indra covers India. It's not D20 (AFAIK), but it should help with background. I haven't actually seen it, but I've read a few threads about it.

    Cleaning my long-lost Megamat

I've had good luck with engine degreaser. I used the one by the people who make WD-40. Make sure to do it outside or in a well-ventilated area, and get all of it off before you use it. I'm sure it does some damage to the surface, but it wasn't anything we noticed.

The Matrix - A false reputation.

Interesting point, because I always thought killing sleepers such as the security guards in the lobby in the first movie was wrong, even with the explanation of why. That would make the rest of the characters bad guys too.

Is Time Travel (going backwards) Possible?

I'd like to assert for the record that General Relativity says that I'm sexier than any of my relatives.

Is Time Travel (going backwards) Possible?

This is interesting, and I've often thought of the possibility of time as a surface; one timeline defines its length, multiple timelines define its width. In such a universe, every possibility could be predestined, existing somewhere on the surface. In other words, time is not dynamic, and the...

Is Time Travel (going backwards) Possible?

Irrelevant to the topic at hand. The point is, it's time travel to the future, because all such future time travel would take some interval of subjective time that is less than the interval of subjective time that would have passed without the time travel.

Is Time Travel (going backwards) Possible?

How do you figure? Travel near c time slows down for your frame of reference. Stop travelling near c, and bam, you're in the future. Sure, you pass through the intervening time at an accellerated rate, but you still get to the future in a shorter period of time than it would take if you had...
