Consent in Gaming - Free Guidebook

All this. As much as anything else, this document is getting people to talk about this stuff, and that talking gets people thinking. Even GMs who never use the consent form may put a little more thought into using difficult content in their games, and maybe talking to their players about it...

Medieval Warfare and its Effects on Society/Economics

That may have been the ideal, but in practice often wasn’t the case. A lot of medieval warfare involved avoiding the enemy as much as possible, while killing his serfs and taking his stuff. The idea being to preserve your troops (which were expensive) while pressuring your opponent to make a...

Consent in Gaming - Free Guidebook

So you’re saying the trauma victim should man up? Not worry that the GM, through simple, understandable ignorance, will spring something on him? This isn’t complicated, and it shouldn’t be controversial. A GM getting a heads up about this stuff is never a bad thing. Understanding that just...

So? The alternative is that everything is included, including what they hate.

Consent in Gaming - Free Guidebook

No, I can’t see how it could go wrong. And most interactions between friends and strangers aren’t role playing games. It’s not generally applicable.

Consent in Gaming - Free Guidebook

Why would they expect Nasty Stuff to happen, if they’ve just told the GM what not to include in the game? And I think a nervous player is s lot more likely to play DnD if he’s reassured that his personal trauma isn’t going to come up.

Consent in Gaming - Free Guidebook

GMs acting in good faith naughty word up all the time. And GMs acting in good faith may want to explore dark, mature and/or horror elements in their games, but be unaware of what might be upsetting to their players. I can’t see any reason why a GM being more aware about what upsets his players could...

Consent in Gaming - Free Guidebook

No, that isn’t what happened. That’s what the GM claimed happened after the fact, which turned out to be very much not the case. The players had no reasonable expectation that their teenage characters were going to be drugged and gang-raped. It was totally out of the blue, and totally...

Consent in Gaming - Free Guidebook

But that’s just it: players come to an RPG session expecting nothing more unusual than they would at a dinner party or other typical social gathering... only to have their characters drugged, bound, and raped in the back of a van. Again: none of the incidents of rape or graphic violence in the...

Consent in Gaming - Free Guidebook

Hey, if you’re confident it’s not a problem at your table, that’s fine. But I’ve played games of DND that featured rape, graphic violence, brutal torture and physical humiliation of characters. None of which was highlighted ahead of time or thematically appropriate, it was just thrown in ‘for...

Consent in Gaming - Free Guidebook

So your session 0 gave people a heads up about some of the stuff that would be in the game, giving players a heads up so they can drop out if they have a problem with any of it. But what about all the stuff you didn’t mention in your session 0? Sure, the war veteran who suffers PTSD flashbacks...

What are the sources for Warhammer Fantasy Role Play?

The Empire was modeled on the real world Holy Roman Empire, to help sell Citadel’s 30 Years War minis. Since then it’s taken on a life of its own, of course, and is somewhat beholden to the ‘rule of cool.’

Massive $750 10-Book "The Enemy Within Collector’s Edition" From Cubicle 7

The companions aren’t designer notes, they’re more like regular game supplements.

Why are we okay with violence in RPGs?

I think HJFudge has it: culturally we find it ok to pretend at violence. It’s not just RPGs, it’s movies, computer games, novels, wargames, paintball...

Players 'distressed' by gang-rape role-playing game

Is this indicative of the hobby moving in a good direction? Let’s see: GM used rape to try and squick his players. The result was that the incident was investigated, and the GM was banned from the con in question, and probably other cons. Seems appropriate, and not undue hardship to the GM in...

Players 'distressed' by gang-rape role-playing game

That’s a risky step to take for any group/institution. It’s one thing to fire someone or ban them from your premises or events. It’s another to broadcast that person’s name to the public.

Do you like Warhammer FRP 4th edition?

You occasionally suffer from conditions, like Bleeding (lose X number of wounds a round), or dazed or blinded or the like. Usually as a result of suffering crits.

Players 'distressed' by gang-rape role-playing game

Per at least one of the players, the rape was not ‘implied,’ they were told their characters had been raped and would be either raped again or murdered if they did not escape. Secondly, the players did not sign up for a ‘mature’ game (and even a ‘mature’ warning wouldn’t have sufficed, IMO)...

Do you like Warhammer FRP 4th edition?

A bit, but not much. If you can handle 2nd ed, you can handle 4th.

Do you like Warhammer FRP 4th edition?

No, it’s a solid edition. Some people love it, some people hate it. Same as any new edition of any game ever.
