D&D 5E (2014) What do players spend their treasure on?

Lifestyle costs money. If the adventures are spaced out enough the characters should want to get a move on as that daily cost can really add up. My character is pouring money into renovating an orphanage (the existing buildings are now waterproof), with an eye to also get a warhorse and better...

    D&D 5E (2014) Improving the Fighter's Stickiness

I think this version points to followers and hirelings forming ranks for battlefield control. The one OA and hordes of Hobgoblins at higher level make me think this, and I'm happy with that. To change this I'd houserule that # of OA be determined by dex mod (min 1).

That's what I thought when I read it too. I want my mule and cart!

    D&D 5E (2014) The Paladin excerpt

I cringed too. Firstly, when will there be a picture of say a paladin not wearing chunky armour, or super intricately detailed gear that must catch & jingle, or having a stocky build, or even being, oh I don't know, human and/or male? I'd have to go back to 2E for this image. Hmmm, that's what...

D&D 5E (2014) Will you always max out your primary stat?

I think increasing a score to 18 takes some heat out of the need for that 20, particularly in the first 10 levels, and particularly how character defences now look to be an important competing priority. That said, I feel a need to at least give a nod to roleplay considerations, the game is just...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Hobgoblin stat block

This martial advantage does suggest Hobgoblins are major players in the default setting. (At least I hope the narrative backs this up and it's not just a case of X monster needs Y damage for mechanical reasons.) But call me optimistic, I think the narrative will match this ability. Which then...

D&D 5E (2014) Humans ability increase and level ability increases

With the character sheet preview I have been thinking about the Human racial trait, the default ability score array, and level boosts, specifically how they all interact. First the default array. It has been bumped down slightly to 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8 and as such using this and picking Human...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is Anyone Unhappy About Non-LG Paladins?

I think they've pushed the envelope regarding Paladins as far as they can for my tastes. I view the class as primarily LG, although given the concept of virtue there should be room for a variety of fallen and on-the-path-to-redemption Paladin archetypes. The Blackguard for the damned should...

D&D 5E (2014) Q&A: Mage Cantrips, Multiclass req., and the Psion

I think the 1st level class should be treated differently as it currently being done. The starting character is at least a young adult with a history captured through racial features, background and class choice. The next level gained through experience typically has nowhere near as much time...

D&D 5E (2014) Q&A: Mage Cantrips, Multiclass req., and the Psion

Reading the multi-class guide, I don't think you get the class bonus skill(s) when you multi into it. In the example build above you'd gain 2 extra HPs and effective back-door access to a multi-class option, but if your group uses skills, you're a bit weak in what is your de facto primary class.

D&D 5E (2014) Q&A: Mage Cantrips, Multiclass req., and the Psion

Oh, really I'm just getting at the general lack of methodology and careful wording on user initiated forum polls. WotC take a much more balanced view because they're professionals with a lot to lose if they get it wrong.

D&D 5E (2014) Q&A: Mage Cantrips, Multiclass req., and the Psion

Was thinking the same thing UngeheuerLich. Not sure the fighter class package is what the 10 Str character is actually after. That comes with heavy armour prof & prof in a whole heap of heavy weapons. Seems like an option before full blown multi-classing, i.e. feats, is what's required. There...

D&D 5E (2014) Q&A: Mage Cantrips, Multiclass req., and the Psion

Spells don't necessarily come so easy for Mages. 2 spells per level, that's like every 4-5 game sessions, and at the expense of higher level spells. And still limited in # of cantrips that can be cast in a round. Worth learning a Cantrip? Yeah sure, it can be a good investment, but hardly a...

    Legends & Lore: Clas Groups

I've got no problem with them. They were around in 2E which I played extensively and they were the least of the broken bits, if at all. Personally I'd only use them when constructing adventures and I'm sure some players would use them when deciding what character to play. If the party consisted...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Q&A: 09/27/2013

I get you don't like the +1 implementation, but "absurd" and "nonsense" points more to emotional dislike. Reading the Human entry, I do not think the +1 applies to all Humans. Individually, Humans are not the most superior beings. They shouldn't have any significant racial powers. PC stat...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Q&A: 09/27/2013

I think the biggest benefits humanity enjoys in the implied default fantasy setting is possessing a civilized culture (as detailed above), while also being both a fast growing and populous people. Humans beat Elves & Dwarves by making good the losses faster. Humans beat Orcs & Hobgoblins by...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Q&A: 09/27/2013

I don't think all Humans get a +1 bonus, far from it. Just like in the race description they're modelling the rare Human who can stand toe to toe with a relatively less exceptional member of an otherwise more elite race.

D&D 5E (2014) 02/08/13 New playtest packet to released today. [Udate: PACKAGE OUT!][

Looks like they ripped half the paladin out and transplanted it into the Fighter under Knight. War Cleric gets all the Paladin list combat spells so more identity crisis there. Only 4 ability boosts with a yawning huge gulf between bumps 2 & 3. The class mustn't mention 'Lawful Good only', but...
