    Minion Initiative

I've started being lazy and doing things that way. It's sorta' anti my PCs, though, because they always roll poorly for initiative (watch next game that change entirely).

Indiana Jones 4 and KotS similarities? *Spoilers*

Yeah. that broke my suspension of disbelief into little pieces. It just did not make sense at all. I'm wondering if it was an intentional part of the pulp chosen. I know Lucas' decisions do not make sense to me anymore, but I've heard that his commentary on DVDs makes them seem sane. As far as...

D&D 4E If 4e fails you, what then?

Is that why this thread looks so familiar? In response to the OP's prompt... I've been running Pre-4e pretty well for the past month. If real 4e is not as fun... I'll be disturbed. I'll probably take the things that are fun, and then go back to D&D3.9 or whatever one would choose to call it at...

    4e Battle Music! My Dilemma.

The only problem with Dragonforce is that it only really works for levels 21-30. Which makes me consider the idea of tiered music to go with the players' tiers. Why didn't I say Apocalyptica? Some songs better than others, but a lot are good for D&D.

    My KOTS experience [spoilers]

Is exactly how I like a good D&D strategy to play out. Is also an excellent story. Totally rad. That's sad that the first two encounters are so similar. I'm not going to buy KotS, but I'm interested in how it plays and its reception. I think the OP's suggestion of having a toll fight (w/ a...

    4e Battle Music! My Dilemma.

Why hasn't anyone said Dragon Force, Prodigy, or Rammstein, yet? Did I miss them? Also, (In my group it's been done to death, but I love it for fight scenes) Powerman 5000 - When Worlds Collide (which used to be free for download on their myspace... but apparently isn't anymore. Le sigh). I dig...

(Lots of Spoilers) My Keep on the Shadowfell game

Good story! I'm glad it has gone well and hope to read more about your sessions.

Minions. The DM knows 'em. Do the players?

2 cents... or maybe 10 cents... whatever. In general, I want PCs to make assumptions about things based on descriptions, be they correct or not. A few rounds into battle, I want high insight characters (this happens to be the leader) to get an idea of who's 'tough' and who is 'weak'. After a...

    AC and description

According to some dated stuff I read, the Kobold Dragon Shields wear Scale Armour and Heavy shields. Is this different in KotS?

    Grunt rules: Tougher minions

I'm glad other people like the idea of beefy minions. Soap, here's something I tried running based on those hp 10 Vampire spawn minions. You remember those things, right? Well, I thought they were some kind of damage threshold minions... I ran some pretty fun tests last session. Thus, they're...

    "Solo" players?

I liked the bladesinger idea. And, I agree that they're interesting exercises. Yes, encounter Exp could be set to 100 for 1 PC or 200 for two level 1's... but I like the mental exercise of trying to make a stronger than average PCs to deal with a normal encounter.

    Action Point as Rewards

Well, I've made a house rule which is essentially a motivator for running a bunch of combats. Basically, a second action point costs two (So they'll have hit like... 2 milestones or four fights w/out using an action point (or full resting) to take advantage of this deal... which hasn't happened...

Indiana Jones 4 and KotS similarities? *Spoilers*

Just got in from a late night showing with friends. Entertained, but mixed feelings. Indy's always been a Heroic/Paragon type of hero and in this it felt like things were a bit too epic? Also, the editing was... offensive to my tastes? It felt like scenes were longer (but cut down) or moments...

Gundark's Keep on the Shadowfell xp

Agreed with others, roll damage before mini-removal if it's a power/dramatic moment.

    "Solo" players?

I disagree in some regards. The 'solo' player (or buddy cop two) I'm talking about are more of super-heroes or heroes who are effectively greater than normal to deal with the 'normal' quests. That's the sort of 'feel' I'd want for a 'Solo' PC game. On the other hand, a single rogue who has to...

D&D 4E The "Yay we're finally getting to play 4e!" thread

Playing the devil's advocate, it'd require trust to work out right, and there'd have to be some sort of storytelling middleground. Generally, PCs figure out ACs/Defenses within a few rounds so they can start to generate their own story attempts. Butuhh... PC: "I take my broadsword and chop at...

    Familiars?

What about a minion-like entity. Goes down after one hit, but isn't dead. The 'owner' can 'rez' it w/ using one of their own healing surges w/in 5 minutes of its fall.

    Excerpt: Swarms

Mengu, thanks for running the tests. I like the idea of the drakes, but they do seem overly powerful for their level. Hopefully WotC will have a fix by monday.
