Critical Hits - another thing fixed that wasn't broken

If you have not seen it yet, WOTC has posted an article discussing changes to critical hits. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drdd/20080104 Essentially, a critical hit roll results in maximized damage, not double (or triple) damage. The confirmation roll is gone. In the past, I...

D&D 4E What changes aren't being made in 4E that you think should be

I am right there with you, but that is problem bigger than D&D. (Didn't D20 Future use imperial units? That's very sci-fi!)

4th ed, the Good & the Bad?

Critical Hits I know the rogue will be able to use his sneak attack against all creature types, but will critical hits apply to all creature types as well. (This assumes, of course, critical hits as we know them will be around).

WHAT? I missed this! No disintegration eyestalk?

D&D 4E 4E Halflings unrecognizable from Tolkien hobbits

So what I have been critical of 4E, but the change to the conception of halflings is the least of my worries. In fact, I will give WOTC credit for thinking outside the box and trying something new with what had been IMHO a boring race.

D&D 4E What changes aren't being made in 4E that you think should be

Classes I realize WOTC is going to print what sells, and I do not begrudge them that. But not all classes have a place in all campaigns, and I think this gets lost. I have no problem with a ninja class in a campaign based on Feudal Japan, but in most campaigns it would strain my ability to...

D&D 4E What changes aren't being made in 4E that you think should be

My impression of everything I have heard thus far about 4E is that the changes that are being made are either fixing things that are not broken or are fixing things that could be easily remedied with houserules from Unearthed Arcana. But my biggest concern is that they are not fixing what I...

    Best Movies of 2007

I agree. If Ellen Page does not win the Best Actress Oscar then something is wrong. I'd put it 3rd best for the year behind No Country for Old Men and Ratatouille.

4th ed, the Good & the Bad?

Fixing what is not broken I think the "good" vs "bad" analysis for these misses the boat. If you find the changes good, why not incorporate them into your 3E game now? NO MORE LEVEL DRAIN Fixes something that is not broken. If its a problem, why not publish an alternative rule. (They...

    Confusion

There was a debate earlier in the thread as to how much time must elapse from the end of combat for a subsequent combat to be a new encounter or an extension of the first. In some situations this is obvious. But in the situation in which you have waves and waves of attacking orcs (some perhaps...

    Confusion

Who needs 4E? This discussion succinctly sums up my misgivings about 4E. It changes the rules, but does not make the game better. As a DM I am perfectly capable of determining how much time passes between encounters. I am also perfectly capable of determining when an encounter begins and...

    Jackson Mississippi

Im looking for gaming groups in the Jackson Mississippi area. I am interesting in D20/Dungeons and Dragon, D20 Future, and D20 Modern. I can play or DM. I have been playing RPG's since 1981 but currently don't have much going on in the gaming front.
