Do you know the name of the artist who made this image? It's fantastic!

D&D General Defining your campaing through art? Or how I learned to embrace anime elf ears (image-heavy)

As much as I enjoyed Warcraft in the past, nowadays I really can't stand the styrofoam and plastic armor that you see in a lot of video games like it. One of the ongoing trends in fantasy art that I'm grateful for is the increasing literacy amongst artists in depicting authentic-looking, or at...

D&D 5E (2014) Giving the arcane gish an identity.

An arcane dish makes extensive use of illusion and enchantment magic so the eater can fully experience the mysterious sixth taste. Many think the use of unicorn horn in such a dish is unethical, but then again they probably haven't experienced the wonder of it freshly shaven right at the table.

D&D 5E (2014) What Main Themes Would You Want a New Official Setting to Focus On?

I think if you go full water world you can get some really interesting twists beyond "fantasy Caribbean"; ship cities, living islands, merfolk kingdoms, etc. Take every nautical trope from the Odyssey to Horatio Hornblower and smash them all together and I think you could have something cool.

D&D 5E (2014) What Main Themes Would You Want a New Official Setting to Focus On?

I want to swash some buckles. I want an archipelago world filled with islands of adventure. I want WotC to take the adventure prompts and ship rules from Ghosts of Saltmarsh and crank it up to 11.

    When Fantasy Meets Reality

In hindsight, as the DM, I think I would have asked the player out of game what they're hoping for with this character concept. "How do you want the reveal to happen, and is there anything I can do to help make it happen" or something like that. Because I wonder if they just didn't notice that...

TSR Companies & Freelancers Distance Themselves From The New TSR

In related news, the shovel market has collapsed as one man continues to dig himself deeper and deeper.

D&D General Real life 'dungeons' you can visit

The ruins on the Palatine Hill in Rome (really the entire area around the old Forum), have a strong "open air" dungeon vibe. For a more contemporary locale, Every time I visit Chicago I'm struck by how layered a city can be, with these underground sections that feel like modern labyrinths.

D&D 5E (2014) Giving the arcane gish an identity.

Very true, but the primary issue is that people want a dedicated arcane half-caster (that's not an artificer), instead of having it spread across various subclasses. Similar to how the inclusion of a Psion class remains a major point of debate. For many, subclasses aren't enough.

D&D General Politics (in your game)

I like thinking about politics primarily as a background element for worldbuilding. If I can really nail down what makes a kingdom or empire tick, for example, then it makes it easier to spin off other elements from that foundation. I don't usually expect my players to actively engage with it...

D&D 5E (2014) Giving the arcane gish an identity.

My knowledge of prior editions is pretty poor, but wouldn't this be something of remix of the Warden? I love the mage hunter angle, fighting fire with fire and all that. Problem is that a lot of this begins to infringe on the Ranger's thematic territory.

D&D 5E (2014) Giving the arcane gish an identity.

Ignoring the class fluff, the Paladin really has everything you want for a Spellsword, in my opinion. If the various smite spells were changed into a proper class feature (and rebranded as "Strikes") and there were good alternatives to the more Paladin-y features such as Lay on Hands, Divine...

D&D General Player Numbers - The Sweet Spot?

3-5. The Lower end if online, higher if in-person. The ideal for me remains 4. I've ran a very fun one-shot with just 2 players though, super smooth session to run. I've read of parties of 8 or 9 players, which sounds like an absolute nightmare to me.

    When Fantasy Meets Reality

Less of a roleplaying quirk, more of a character concept. I was the DM for a short campaign of Lost Mine of Phandelver last year with some friends of mine. One player was really excited about the idea of playing an Eberron-style changeling. I had some reservations, but this was going to be a...

D&D General Is there an increase in "godless" campaign settings?

I find the use of pluripresence as you described it to be really compelling in fantasy, as it really sells to me that you're interacting with a power beyond yourself. That dryad you're speaking to is not just the humanoid form before, but the also the grove itself. It makes even simple...

D&D General Is there an increase in "godless" campaign settings?

Fascinating, I never knew that. Good inspiration for some fantasy worldbuilding.

D&D General Is there an increase in "godless" campaign settings?

A fantastic set of rules in my opinion. I would only express some reservations about Rule 5. Someone more knowledgeable than myself can correct me but "convert or die" doesn't seem to have been much of a thing, at least amongst Mediterranean polytheistic cultures such as the Romans. Syncretism...
