D&D 5E (2014) Do PCs at your table have script immunity?

For me as a DM, once a dice has been rolled that means I'm leaving the outcome to chance and need to accept the results, no matter what they are. If a PC dies as a result of play, then that's that. If I were to lean on the scales to prevent a death from occuring, then I'm removing a major...

D&D General A weird idea for a setting where raise dead/resurrection is used for finite death sentance punishment

I don't see the point. Why have have the death penalty in the first place? If the idea is purely based upon punishment, then imprisonment for X number of years would probably accomplish the same thing, cost significantly less, and not direct limited resources needed for resurrecting people worth...

D&D 5E (2014) What level do you like to start at?

I alternate between 1st and 3rd level, generally preferring the latter overall.

D&D 5E (2014) The Philosophy Behind Randomized and Standardized Ability Scores

Exactly, and I greatly prefer point buy when running games. I think I could have made that more clear.

D&D 5E (2014) The Philosophy Behind Randomized and Standardized Ability Scores

Point Buy is simpler and more fair for the entire table. I don't want people getting frustrated because they feel like they're playing an inferior character. Additionally, I find that all the different attempts to lessen the randomness of rolling are kind of missing the point. If you can't...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fix 5e.... in one sentence

Making Great Weapon Master weaker is the entire point of this change, as it and Sharpshooter (as well as Polearm Master) clearly outshine other feats in terms of power. With this change, both feats would scale with proficiency (a concept WotC seems to like), allowing their power to increase as...

D&D General What are the Common Tropes of Dnd?

The Door: Is it locked? Is it trapped? Maybe it's just a completely normal door? Maybe it's a mimic in disguise? What's behind it? Is there anything behind it? Either way, the party will became momentarily paralyzed with indecision as they face this mysterious foe.

    D&D 5E (2014) Fix 5e.... in one sentence

Inspired by another poster in another thread; Great Weapon Master Before you make a melee attack with a heavy weapon that you are proficient with, you can choose to make the attack roll without your proficiency bonus. If the attack hits, you add twice your proficiency bonus to the attack's...

    D&D General D&D doesn't need Evil

Man, I hated this question on the ACT.

    D&D General D&D doesn't need Evil

That's an interpretation. I would rather see it as him dishonoring his vow by killing one delusion man to save thousands of innocent lives. That's pretty good in my book. But that brings us back to the whole issue of subjectivity.

D&D 5E (2014) If the DM forgets something about a boss, should the player remind him

It could be that the DM decided not to use the Legendary Resistance. Anyway, there is something sporting about a player that will bring up the rules even when it might negatively affect them. As a DM I would appreciate it, I tend to forget things here and there because of the sheer number of...

    D&D General D&D doesn't need Evil

I prefer to have the setting and PCs define what is good and evil, with plenty of debate and disagreement arising as a result. Ideas of good and evil should be based upon actions and events. Making these things inherent is overly simplistic and needlessly self-limiting. The subjectivity of good...

D&D General Why are "ugly evil orcs" so unpopular?

If you begin with the assumption that orcs are predominantly chaotic and/or evil then you're creatively boxed in, and so you either embrace this simplicity (and its unfortunate implications) or revamp them into something distinctly different. This is what Warcraft did with their Green and Buff...

D&D General How to design fairies without them looking like tiny humans with bug wings?

The kodama from Princess Mononoke (and broader Japanese mythology) might be a good reference point for a different take on "fairies" and forest spirits.

D&D General What are the most populous races in your setting?

Within the portion of my setting that I've seriously written details for, it goes: Humans ---- Orcs Dwarfs Goblins Elves

D&D 5E (2014) Which of the upcoming books are you most excited about?

Since I don't have any interest in new adventures or settings, Fizban's is the only book I'm cautiously optimistic for.

    D&D 5E (2024) Sacred Cows: Ability Scores

Agreed. Constitution has a distinct niche; sprinter (high strength/power) vs marathoner (high constitution/endurance).

    D&D 5E (2014) Which played-out D&D trope needs to die?

"That's because all clerics are like... boring Catholic priests or something."

    D&D 5E (2014) Which played-out D&D trope needs to die?

I think it's mostly influenced by popular media. Take characters like Luke Skywalker, Harry Potter, Frodo Baggins, etc. All are orphans, more or less, so some players can't imagine a character with a stable family life going out and risking their life.

    D&D 5E (2014) Which played-out D&D trope needs to die?

Every adventurer having dead parents/being an orphan gets tiring.
